After hearing and reading all about this absurd iPhone price drop...I went to the ATT store where I bought my iPhone. Bought iT 13 days ago, whew!. The rep showed me a copy of their policy towards returns with the new price drop. Simply put, ATT is giving $200 toward you ATT current bill. Obviously they want you to keep the phone and you as a customer. I am very happy with this accomodation. I get my $200 back, and basically use it towards my next 2 mnths of cell phone bills. Everythings a wash.. and best part is if I went to Apple to return the phone(ofcourse if thats where I originally purchased it from) they would charge you a 10% restocking fee than resell your old phone with the same s/n # for only$140 less....
ha, why i think i made out!

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE THAT WILL BE TRYING TO GET SOME TYPE OF REFUND...

I think people are having a lot more luck with ATT than they are with Apple. I purchased my iPhone just a little over a month ago and just called ATT and got $150.00 credit towards my bill. They were actually EXTREMELY nice and helpful. I think I could have gotten the whole $200.00 credited but I decided not to push my luck. I'm a happy camper right now.

I also think that ATT was really caught off guard by this and hasn't come out with a firm policy or decision about how to handle it. I got the distinct impression that the person I talked to wasn't sure how to handle any of this. She was practically asking me what I would be happy with. If anyone is thinking about contacting ATT, I would strongly suggest doing it quickly while they are still trying to figure out what to do.

It's almost like they are prorating it. I think they are giving all or most of the $200 back if you purchased within the last 30 days. I told them that I read on a forum that someone who bought the phone the same day I did, got $150.00 back, so they gave it to me. It might also just be the luck of the draw as to who you talk to.

so i read this forum and decided to call ATT myself... argued forever.. first guy admitted that if you guy it within 30 days you could get a credit to your account. then i spoke to his supervisor, and she denied that. she also wouldn't shut up just re reading what shes told to say. so i asked to talk to her supervisor.. this guy denied the 30 day thing also. he offered me a 59.99 credit to my account.. i told him that many people were getting the full discount.. he said he didn't know anything about it. they try to be consistant but unfortunately they are not. he promised to look into it further and give me a call back on saturday. it really seems like it just depends on who you talk to which is ridiculous

I called the AT&T store where i bought my phone.
I didn't need to go too much in details and the guy started saying "I can't refund you the price difference but what I can do as a courtesy is crediting $150 to your account". I said ok. And here it is, I dialed *225# after hanging up and received a text message from ATT showing my $150 credit! YES!

Didn't you say in another thread that American Express was giving you a $200.00 credit?

For those of you getting some love from AT&T, when did you get your phone? I bought mine July 14. Can anyone give me some insight as to what my chances are if i go in tomorrow?

My thought is that now that the 100 store credit is official, AT&T will not give any sort of refund/credit.

I got my phone on July 28 and they issued my 150 dollar credit. Go tomorrow, talk to them.

I just got back from the Apple Store where I bought my iPhone, and while they tried to sell me on the $100 rebate next week, I eventually got them to give me $216 in the form of an Apple gift card. I just demanded to talk to a Sales Lead, and told him I was over the 14 day limit, so he did an "out of box" exchange (I didn't need to actually hand over my iPhone at all, in fact I acted like I didn't have it so he wouldn't see all my hacks), and instead of $150 cash I got $216 on a gift card! 30 minutes and one pair of $100 headphones later, I don't know what to buy. BUT I GOT A REFUND! :laugh2:

I bought mine on July 28th. I think your chances were probably better today before the announcement, but it doesn't hurt to try. It seems they are more open to giving credit towards your account, so try that. You might want to just try calling the customer service number first. If they turn you down, you can always try the store.

When I called, I was very, very polite and just said that I had read on some forums today that they were giving people credit towards their account. The woman asked me how much I had heard they were giving and I said "um...$150". (Lol, I just kind of pulled that number out of my butt.)

Good Luck!

I got 200.00 credit towards my ATT bill. Granted I was within 14 days.

Now I wonder if I can I can get the 100.00
Not according to Steve-O: the $100 credit is for any early iPhone owner "who is not receiving a rebate or any other consideration". Besides, you'll pay a Karmic penalty. ;)

Refund and price raise after XMAS

I was in the 10 day window and got my 200 refund today with
no problem from AT&T. They were a little hazy on the whole deal
but had some sort of paperwork and codes to enter which they
followed.

In response to my question of why the price drop the sales clerk
said it was to get the back-to-school market and the Christmas
market and then the price will go back up. Could be just conjecture
or gossip..I don't know...I'm just a iPhone nooby.

Whoa! Hold on a minute. "The [$100 credit] policy covers those who bought their phones within 14 days of the price cut." ?! Where in the name of Sam Hill did those AP writers get that from?!

Steve's letter, Apple's only official source of information on this issue, says that "Details are still being worked out and will be posted on Apple's website next week." Anyone know anything Apple doesn't?

After reading this thread I called ATT support and talked to someone who put me on hold, to talk to her manager, right after I said people online are saying they are getting refunds past the 14 days. When she came back she told me that a new policy just came out and that you can get $200 back 14-20 days after the purchase.

I tell her I bought my phone just 18 days ago (Aug 19th) and want this refund. She said I could only get this refund at the ATT store I bought it from. I said okay, I'll head there, thank you.

So 25 minutes later I'm at the ATT store (thankfully they're open till 9PM) and tell the sales people there that I want a refund. They look up my account (since they don't know of this policy) and say there is no note about this. They call the store manager and I'm told tough luck (but in a much nicer way).

So at 8:50PM I walk out the store call ATT customer support, on my iPhone, and quickly get put through to a new person. She says she just got a new email about this and that I am CORRECT. That I should get a refund. She makes a note on my account that states I am supposed to get a $200 refund from the store where I purchased it at, even though I'm past 14 days, that 14 days to 20 days counts.

And as an apology for having to call back she also put a $25 credit onto my wireless bill. *225# says that it indeed has already been applied.

At 8:55PM I walk back into the store and ask them to pull my account back up. They do so and see the note, but they don't know how to process it so they call the store manager back. He says that's against policy and to not give me the refund! The sales people tell me that they're technically supposed to do what the customer support notes say. The manager apparently is going to look into this tomorrow morning and call me back.

As of right now I've gotten $25 for having to call support back and a note that says I'm supposed to get a refund for $200. Tomorrow will tell for sure, but I'm thinking I'll be getting my refund. If not then man I'm going to lay into them, because at this point they've said that I'm due a refund and I have proof.

Anyhow, good luck to everyone else! Very nice forums, I came here about this price fiasco but will stay because of the mod stuff. :laugh2:

ye athey credit me back $200 dollars and then i was like wtf where did my tax money go so then i didn't give up the fight i was still piss but was still happy got back 200 and then had them throw in the 29.99 belkin case free the manager was like uhhh... but im a paying customer like how you were sayign if they had me return my phone and i would lose $60 dollars of restocking fee they would lose more because they would have to sell it used after the price drop which is really cheap...
