Hi guys, I purchase one on Iday and still haven't opened it yet. I was on the fence when I bought it, but bought one anyway. I want to get a poll whether it is worth keeping or not. Considering all the thing that are going on right now, sound level, sync issues and activation.

I wanted to get feeling from you guys. Basically if you were to do it all over again, knowing what you know no, would you get the phone.

thanks,

Tenn

The issues are not real problems. Only 2% of ALL iPhone users had activation trouble. Software updates are promised to provide further updates.

Personally, I think you're crazy for watching the box get dusty.

I would again sit for 6 hours to get it. Its the best phone/ipod/internet/calendar/planner/everything i ever owned.

I would go through all the growing pains again-
I know it's rough and it sux to have issues-but for me it's still worth it.
Of course I'm a pure Apple Geek..so U knw.
I don't know how U could have the iPhone still in it's box after all this time.
Is it an 8gig version..?

Keep it, but if you decide not to don't return it. Sell it on ebay. The average going price is around $700 so you can make a little $$$$ while you're at it!

I was really busy this weekend and I wanted to dedicate a few hours to activate, sync outlook, sync music and etc. Anyway, I was able to get on everything iPhone yesterday and saw a slew of minor and major issues, so I since i haven't opened it, I figured I would ask you guys. :)

btw it's an 8gb

Let me give you an honest, somewhat unbiased opinion (being that I'm not an Apple guy so to speak).

I've never had a Mac. I've never had an iPod. This was my first Apple product ever. I was kind of skeptical just because of the insane hype machine.

Yes there are some flaws and things they need to improve with this phone. But the positives FAR outweigh the negatives. This might be the greatest electronic gadget I've ever owned. And I've had quite a few. It really is amazing.

It has the greatest, most slick interface of anything I've ever seen. It's so easy and user friendly to make calls, use call waiting and conference calls, browse the web, check email. It's incredible.

I was driving to an appointment with a client today and I had the ear phones in listening to some mp3s and the music faded out quickly because I had a call. I just clicked the little button on the headphones and I'm on the call. When the person hung up after the call I didn't have to do anything. The music fades back in from where it left off.

The little things like that make this phone just absolutely amazing.

Open it.

I commend you for writing this well thought out post.
As someone with years of experience as a mobile phone enthusiast, and has lots of experience with smart phones I feel well qualified to answer your post. Please also note that in general I really like Apple Products.

Bottom line, after I have now used my iPhone for 2.5 days. And if I was going to do it again, I would wait for the next version. There are too many little bugs and the lack of 3G is a big disadvantage. Ironically I knew all this before I bought one, but got sucked in by the excitement of the launch etc. Since you have not purchased one yet. I think you would be much better off waiting as I believe they will have the second version out relatively soon.

The additional advantage you have is you will not have wasted money on the first version which will collapse in value as version 2.0 is announced.

Hope this helps.

Art,

Thanks for your honest opinion. It was funny how I got to own one.

I was driving up to Los Angeles from San Diego (going to visit the in-laws). I had dropped by a few att stores on the home form work and found that there were lines.. 30 people deep lines. Pretty long for North County San Diego. But, anyway. I'm not going to stand in line heck no. Forget it. So, my wife and I start on our way to LA around 6:30pm.

At 7:30 we stop by South Coast Plaza, halfway between LA and SD. becasue my wife wants to stop by Bloomingdales. I remembered there's an Apple store. I drop by and there is a line of 10 people waiting outside the door. I get in line to "see" the new iPhone. suddenly I get cattle prodded into the store and next thing I know there's a dude with a piercing through his/her lip asking me if I wanted 4gb ro 8gb. I ask him if I could step outside the line to play with the phones. I spend 1/2 hour playing with the phone and finally purchase one. Wow I felt like Ralphie in A Christmas Story. So, I got caught up in the hype, but never opened the box. :D

I hope to have more honest opinions like yours to help facilitate my decision. It's funny I was playing with you tube with one of the display models and the EDGE worked okay. I don't know if i was just trying to rationalize, but i streamed a video without it stopping.

Thanks,

Tenn

I love mine so much right now, I agree, it truly is one of the greatest gadgets I've ever gotten the pleasure to own/use. But as soon as Ver2.0 comes out, it'll be a shot to my gut, because the things they will update will be the biggest complaints I have with the phone. (Memory,3G,pic message etc) I doubt I will sell mine and upgrade in 6 months. I wanted one so bad I could not wait another random period of time before version2. So to be honest, it was worth it, and if I had to do it all over again, I would. Its too damn cool of a phone to NOT have, but if you CAN be patient, I say do so.

And when he says little he means little.

With sales tax paid and free shipping a requisite, the net profit for such a move might get you and a date entrance to a movie.

I've heard about people like you. You're just doing penance for some twisted undecipherable reason. Right? You buy the iPhone and put it there in front of yourself, unopened, to cause yourself untold suffering.

I say, you can use any other means of masochism. Ropes, whips, chains,... but please spare the rest of us this form of suffering!

Open the box!

I got to open THREE boxes (wife, mother and mine) and I couldn't even wait more than two minutes after I walked in the house. :)

Hey JeffB--
I feel the same way you do about my iphone-
I decided to make a t-shirt to express myself-

If U don't mind I'd like to make a t-shirt that says "I (heart) MiPhone"
the same way you wrote it.

I will let you know when I have finished it.

Peace-
