Looks like ther's more under the hood than first thought

The phone has been stripped apart (almost immediately upon release) and there are no 3G chips in the case. The processor can handle 3G if the chip(s) were present, but alas - they aren't... so you're right.
Actually guys... This is VERY interesting.. Because I stumbled upon this one earlier today, sorry if someone posted it somewhere else! but here it is :

And, all that snooping around has uncovered a few interesting bits of information within the iPhone�s firmware. It seems that there are 4 hidden references to unused, possibly hidden, applications in the "LocalizedApplicationNames.strings" file:

Well, I still think the absence of 3G support has yet to be conclusively proven.
The primary Infineon chip does support 3G with an external coprocessor.
The uncertainty lies with the other Infineon chip, that EETimes claims that it appears to be a M1817A11. But the print on the chip doesn't jive with that.
I tried Googling for a datasheet on this M1817A11. I couldn't find one.
I did find this German article raising the same questions as I have about the uncertainty surrounding this chip.
