.Mac account synching

I know all this speculation is pretty futile, but does any one have an idea of how/what .Mac synching might be possible through the cellular internet on the iPhone? It seems to me it would be REALLY awesome to be able to retrieve iCal info and Address book vCards that have changed on your .Mac account (say you had a secretary ) synched to a desktop somewhere. Which in turn is synched to your iPhone. And vice versa.

Of course, you can always wait until you're back home from your trip or whatever to sync with a cable, but.. what fun is that?

I haven't used enough of its features to give you a good answer, but you get a 1 GB idisk and .mac email account with part of that space going to .mac email and part going to iDisk (or is it 2 now.. I think it's 2 GB). The iDisk is easy to access from any mac, you can create folders on it that friends can access, or they can access the whole thing if you allow them to. But also it holds a copy of your bookmarks, contacts, and iCal events if your desktop is connected to the net and you tell it to sync those things up. I don't know if it's worth $100/yr (it hasn't been with the little I've used it ... :-\ ), but it would be if I make more use of the isync technology, which I definitely plan to especially when I get the iPhone! :-D (If.... ). I have the Palm Treo 650 right now.

It works out to be a little more than a quarter/day. (I know people who will spend twice that on soda/day or muffins or whatever per day.)

Take the trial and check it out for yourself. If you have multiple Macs (eg at work and home) it's pretty nice to be able to keep them all in sync (bookmarks, calendar info, contacts, etc). It also acts as a backup for all this stuff.

It might not be worth it if you only have one machine though as you can get cheap web hosting and more storage space for the same price.
