MC's buyer protection covers purchases that went on sale or dropped in price within the last 60 days. so if you have mastercard you are covered .

CitiBank's purchase protection (I have it on my MC which I bought the phone on) requires a printed advertisement...of which there are none yet.

And they are VERY strict about this. They will not accept pages printed off the web, copies of price tags, etc.

Not all mastercards.........you will need to call mastercard directly at 1 800 622 7747 and ask for benefits department. you give them your card number and they will tell you if price protection is a benefit for your specific card. interesting enough, my bank couldn't tell me, they referred me to the MC number above.

good luck all.

on a different note, i did find out i have purchase assurance (if lost/stolen within 90 days, i get money for a new one........and please no comments about "what if......"), also, extended warranty, if an item's manufacturer warranty is good for a year, MC will auto extend it another year. Also collision coverage when renting car, but no personal injury or other person injury insurance coverage.......

but hey, i didn't even know i had the above benefits on this particular card (which happened to have been a MC "Check" card by the way.......

I checked with Mastercard and found out I have this coverage too. Never knew! I'm sure i could have used it before as I'm always buying gadgets which invariably drop in price.

Unfortunately I bought my iPhone the day they came out...over 60 days ago :(

Looks like a lot of people have had the same idea though. Found this at tuaw.com:

Readers report that calls to the American Express Return Protection line (1-800-297-8019) are being met with mixed results. Some readers say they are now accepting claims concerning the $200 dollar iPhone price drop, others have had less luck When I called, I was told that customers would be sent to a claims examiner to determine whether the difference in purchase price would be covered. I placed a call to Molly Faust, the American Express Vice President of Public Affairs and Communications for U.S. Consumer Card and Customer Service Delivery. She told me that she was already looking into this matter and promised to get back to me.
According to one TUAW reader, a protection-line operator said "the number of calls we've received about this is utterly insane."

I called and they say that the printed price reduction from the website would not be valid. If ATT does advertise the price reduction ina newspaper or a flyer, than it would be valid.

You are correct. I said that the whole world saw on TV and in the newspapers that the Iphon'es were reduced, but she told me that they needed a "ad" to enable a price difference rebate. If you hear of any ad, please post it here.

I'd tell her she needs to get out into the world more and ask to speak with a supervisor.

Is it possible that you can either publish the policy here or give me a URL that states the policy. Thanks.

Don't have to go through any of that anymore, went to the Apple store this morning, and they credited my MC $200 plus tax. What a way to keep customers. A hat tip to Apple.......
