Missed Calls?

I live in a small town w/ one cell tower. I've been using a variety of different cell phones and have never had any problems until the latest and greatest came along and screwed things up.
Now, w/ the iPhone I miss perhaps 2-3 out of ten calls. I know I haven't left the calling area, no it's not on vibrate... etc.
Am I alone with this problem or are others finding that the not so holy grail is missing calls?

If you are missing calls you may just not be hearing the ringer go off. If the phone is saying that it had a missed call, the calls are making it to the phone itself. May want to do a few test calls to yourself to make sure the phone is ringing on all calls.

If you are using EDGE for data (safari, youtube, etc) your calls will go to voicemail.

I have been having this problem as well. Not only with the iPhone but since switching to ATT a few months back with a blackberry 8800. Raising the bar my a**. I lose calls and do not get them even with full signals. I live in an area where all cell phones work fine. You wouldn't believe how many dropped calls I have while on the phone sitting in one area. Its very frustrating.

Hey everyone,

I have recently been receiving complaints from people who are trying to call me saying it went straight to my voice mail or it rang but i never answered. I have full service yet my phone never rings on my end nor do i get a missed call notification. But it doesn't always do this since I do get some calls. I'm not sure if it is a phone problem, service problem, or maybe because I recently jailbroke my phone.
I'll probably wind up calling AT&T and ask them for help but I figured I would ask here first to see if anyone has a solution.

Thanks for the help.
Mark

If you're using one of the apps like mail or safari, the iPhone will default straight to voicemail. You can't use data and voice at the same time. You could be experiencing that if you're using your apps a lot.

Hmmm... the calls might be coinciding with your phone checking for new mail? This could be more likely if you have a slow mail server.

How often is it set to check for new mail? And what email provider are you using?

my mail doesn't update unless i physically click on the app & I'm using gmail.
I normally have more then 3 bars or so that's why I'm confused as to why I'm not getting the calls at all.
My best bet I guess is to just call AT&T and see what they say.

With three bars you should be getting all your calls. I agree though that sometimes it seems like I find missed calls on my phone without ever hearing it ring, but the ring tones are the loudest in the world either. Not saying the volume is your issue, but for my old man ears, it could very well be.

This happens to me a lot when I'm not using my phone, and my mail's set to manual pull only. I also lose service frequently, particularly around rush hour and again at midnight. It would be interesting to learn if you found any answers - keep us posted.

are you sure its not checking like every so often for mail? thats the only thing I can think of. Mail is the only program that activates while idle to check for mail that I know of.

I had the same problem, I took my phone to the AT&T store from where I bought it and they sent me to the Apple store. Apple just replaced my phone,
when i mention the problem to the tech he didn't sound surprised, I have had less missed calls since then. By the way when i miss a call my iPhone is idle, no apps running and mail is on manual.

i havnt had a chance to call AT&T to find my answer out yet, but when i do ill update you.

also my phone isn't even registering the missed call, it is acting as if the phone is turned off. today my girlfriend tried calling me right next to me and it went straight to my voicemail yet i had full service so she can demonstrate how she tried calling me. it might be the room i'm in but then i would think it wouldn't show i have service at all. But a few hours before that i actually got a call so i really don't know what the problem is.

Here's the case, I use my iPhone as my work phone. Over the last week, my boss and co-workers complain that my phone tells them it's out of service when they call from the office. I blew it off thinking it's the office phone system at fault since I can call it from my blackberry and the call goes through. Well, just now I decided to test it and had my wife call while I was responding to a email and what do you know the phone was ringing on her end, but the iPhone wasn't. After I sent the email I got a new voicemail (from wife). I am using wifi with one bar of service at my home. Is my iPhone defective? Is it a AT&T issue where they need to reprovision my account or is it b/c I am wifi? Or is it just due to one bar. I am on my 3rd iPhone 3g so I won't hesitate to return this if it's a phone issue. What are your thoughts?
