i need a mac app that i can just open, type some text in it, close it, and that text is saved. maybe a button to close and save without a file name and a button to close and not save at all. that'd be the most simple and useful app on os x for me

It is. I also use the Notefile app that syncs OTA between OS X and iOS. I use that instead of the stock notes app. For OS X it has a dashboard widget where you can write or edit a note and it's automatically saved. There's also a web app.
