Multiple E-mail Account Question

I am a little older than most people on this forum but try hard to keep up. Yes I have an Apple Mac-Book Pro,latest large screen iPod,iMac at work and yes the fantastic iPhone.My technical question is this
I have 3 e-mail accounts that the iPhone receives mail. If I receive an e-mail on my work account, I cannot reply but have to reply through my .mac e-mail. Is this correct? This is my first "smart phone" never had e-mail on my phones before. It make sense to me by not being connected to my work or home account returning an answer... but if the phone can retrieve mail via the net, it would seem there would be a way to send. I hope this makes some sense to some of you more tech savvy people than I understand ?

The iPhone sends mail just like any other client. If you receive an email on your work account and you reply it will come from that work account (assuming everything is set up correctly). It works the same on Wifi or EDGE. Hope this helps, if not let me know.

I assume that would be correct... someone else told me that you must reply through your .mac e-mail. I am new to this forum and being an Apple user am very surprized to see how many PC users are buying iPhones. That being said I assume that most of them do not have .mac account or mac mail.May have to get back to you and make sure I am set up correctly.

.Mac is not needed in any way to use an iPhone. The only use for it on the iPhone is if you already use a .mac email address

Your work email setup is the question here. If your work email is MS EXchange then you may have a settings problem. If your work email is a standard pop3 account, then it might block outgoing mail on it's server when you're not connected to the server. it's the same with almost any ISP. When you're actually connected it's not a problem, but when you're off the network then it is.

You can change the outgoing server settings to cwmx.com without any user name or password, but that won't work when you're connected to wifi. It will work fine when you're just connected to the AT&T EDGE network though.
