I discovered that I can start a playlist on my iPad and a slideshow of the photos on my iPad and use AirPlay to send both to my TV simultaneously. Works great.

I love the AppleTV. I set up one for my Dad so that it screen-blanks to a slide show of his grandkids. At 71 he has no problems with the device (or his iPad). Too bad about the microscopic remote control.
