I can see those features but not the price. I'm not worried because I'll just sell the current model as soon as the new one comes out. The current model will not depreciate that much.

Have iPod prices dropped? An iPod today costs about the same it did when it was introduced years ago. Then it only 5GB, now it is has a lot more, color, can show movies etc... Still the same price though.

I would say the second generation iPhone is _at least_ a year away. My gut tells me it is more like 18 months to two years. Apple still does not know if iPhone will be a sucess. They currently have one hell of a lot of cash tied up in unsold inventory. If iPhone flops and no one buys them what then? No way they would risk the money to already be building the second generation. Initial planning stages, maybe. That puts the second genration between 12 and 24 months away and my guess is closer to 24.

Or you could look at it as much cheaper, smaller, color, and does photos (nano).

I'm with you on this one. If it proves to be a huge success, which I think it will, then you'll see this timeline moved up a little.

IMO, it is what it is. Any new gadget purchased now could be obsolete tomorrow as technology evolves and prices drop. Although I don't think the iPhone will ever fall below $400 or $500. Just more and more stuff will be added to it.

That was my same argument I've had with people who tell me just wait, the price will go down, but years later the iPod is still the same price and hasn't gone down, and if anything the most you'll get is $20 off Best Buy Sale for like fathers day or somethings,

but thats my biggest fear also, that in just a few months if not by Christmas they will release an updated model and I know I will want it, so what to do then...

i'm holding out until December, well i'm going to try my best. I just have to stay off this board so I don't see you guys talking about all the cool things your iPhone does. Anyway I think *hope* there will be a sale around christmas. Plus if there are any problems with the 1st run of iPhones I won't have to worry about it. ie: bad battery, crappy speaker, glitch in the screen, etc etc.

You'll cave in.
By november, you probably will have seen at least several of them, and they will have started to make you antsy, by then.
I think it's gonna be just like the iPod. There may be a version 2 within the next 2 years, but it'll probably be like a "nano iPhone".

^That iPhone nano idea sounds stupid as hell. Would be an automatic flop, I think. ie:Sidekick ID

I'm not worried at all about an upgraded version but if they cut the price (which I doubt) then I will be pretty pissed.

It's going to be pretty hard to sell this while on contract for 2 years.

Actually prices have dropped substantially.
The original 5gb and 10gb were priced at $399 and $499. Now $249 and $349 for much bigger with waaaaay more capacity.
Obsolescence in electronics is, unfortunately, inevitable.

I have a really really really bad feeling i'm going to cave..... I just watched the newest video demo on Apples website that i read about here and that didn't help my "waiting until december" plan at all! .... I need to stay off this website but it's like crack man!
