So I go to use my email, and I can't get into the inbox.
I thought email was messed up, but it turns out, a line/section of my touchscreen isn't working.

Figures, cause I have a 7 series screen.

I go to Apple store with all my box, receipt etc..I've had it for 1 month.
The Apple genius bar tech tells me that normally they give loaner phones while mine is being sent out for repair. She says that no loaner phones left. I'm like great.

I still have my Sony Ericsson k790a and sim card pops right in, so I can use that. So now I'm waiting 3 businesss days for them to ship it to my house.

I tell my friend, and he says he's on his 3rd iPhone cause he keeps dropping it. Meanwhile mine malfunctions and they make me send it out?
That is so whack. What if I didn't have a backup cell phone?

So unfair, they should have just gave me a new 8GB right there on the spot since mine wasn't dropped, had screen protector on it, and all.

Boo to Apple.

Next time, I'm gonna throw a temper tantrum and demand Steve to give me a replacement phone. lol

Sorry to hear your problems, I agree. Out of curiosity though, do you know if the "loaner phones" are iPhones?

Yes, they are loaner iPhones from what the tech was explaining.

But what if you drop the loaner or break it? lol Is the customer responsible?

I got so many questions for Apple, and they have so little answers for me.

Shame on you Apple.

I just got my iPhone back from Apple, FedEx just left.

Cool thing is I got a new Phone I think, serial number is different, and also got some cool slim iPhone box... :)

I'm going to check to see if I have a 5 or 7 series screen later.

One weird thing I noticed...

When I took the iPhone out of the box, I turned it on by accident. It said could not activate edge, and the WiFi works.

Isn't the phone suppose to not work without a SIM card?

Weird...maybe cause the tech had to test it?
Anyone know?

I got a series 5 screen now.

But I do see 1 small tiny dead or stuck pixel under the calculator, but it's so non noticeable I can live with it.

*GASP*
a flaw on the highly-vaunted, nearly god-like 5 series screen? What's left in this world to believe in?

What is the differenece between series 5 and 7? how do i figure out which one I have?

Nevermind, I found it.
So what do you have? A 5 or a 7?
I can't see the grid touchscreen anymore on mine in the light.

In case any one else is wondering-
To find out what revision your phone is, go to the phone pad and dial *3001#12345#* and hit "call". Go under the "version" menu and see what the first digit is in your LCD number.

I had the same issue with the bottom half frozen and I am going through the same process as you, I can't see why they don't just give us a new phone and the store can get reiumbursed for the phone I guess it is because they have to make sure it wasn't damaged by us..I also had a screen protector, I am seeing an amazing coincidence with everyone that have touchscreen problems have screen protectors, i am seriously thinking of not protecting this new one when i get it..

The exact same thing happened to my iPhone on Sunday. Just got the box in the mail from FedEx today and already shipped it out to Apple. I was offered NO loaner phone from Apple though. They didn't even mention it. I hope this isn't an issue that keeps popping up. Seems like there are more and more cases of the frozen screens popping up daily. Three days ago, I couldn't find anyone who had this issue. Now I see more and more cases like this. What gives? You'd think that a device whose inivation is based on a touch screen interface would be a little more well put together.

So how long is it taking you guys to get your phones back? I sent mine out today. A week, 2 weeks(hopefully not)? I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks.

I was told 2-3 days, we are on day 2 so we will see I just got an email saying Apple has got my phone now and they are "Diagnosing the problem" whatever that means it should take them about 2 minutes to realize the touchscreen won't work and to send me a new one, they should in a perfect world, be able to authorize the Apple store to give me a new phone and they can send the Apple store the replacement, its crap I have to wait till they send in a phone from Apple. If this was any other phone though I would be in the same boat so I can't really complain, I also watched two people who had colored Ipod mini unable to replace the units since they had to be the exact same color so i am seeing that this can be a future problem with other Apple products as well...we will see..

Same problem

My phone started doing the same thing last week. The area on the screen that correlates to the numbers 4,5,6 or Youtube, stocks, etc. on the home screen will not respond to touch. It ironically happened the same day I put a skin protector and iskin on it. At first you could keep tapping it and the numbers would work, but now its completey unresponsive. I have taken extreme care of this phone and it hasn't been dropped or abused.

I received a return box today from Apple to send it off to be fixed. A loaner phone is $30, so I'll be using my old LG phone while it's repaired. I just hope they send me a new phone and not one that is refurbished or will have issues down the road. It's a great phone but it's frustating that this happened within two weeks of use. Also I can't find out which screen version I have because I can't type all the numbers in the keypad.
