native Messages app not showing badge

after jailbreaking and unlocking my iPhone 3GS on 4.3.3, I've noticed that the native Messages app doesn't display the badge with the number of unread messages. at first I thought this was because I chose to have the "preview" pop up so I disabled that and still nothing. even if I ignore the notification and come back later, there is no indication that I even have any new messages, which can cause a problem.

the only thing I could think of is that biteSMS is interfering with it. I don't actually USE biteSMS except for the custom contact text tones. I have the app itself hidden. I could live without it if I had to but I'm hoping this isn't the case.

any ideas?

I had a similar thing with a JB 3G.
It turned out to be a feature I had activated on winterboard, can you delete the bite sms app, I should imagine that its some issue with the jailbreak or a app.

I used to use a tool called iPhone explorer to access the iPhones file system, if you couldn't delete the app via normal methods you can simply remove the file. I did this on a 3GS to remove the game center app. I also used this to unjailbreak iPhones by removing cydia works ok.

If you do follow this route always reboot after and the app will disappear

Hope this was useful
