Sound

Are you guys getting any sound for any of your ROMs? I'm not...is there a setting I have to update on SSH?

From the README

SOUND
In order to have sound, you must disable mediaserverd, which is the iPhone's
sound mixer process, which is locked onto the audio device. A couple of
easy aliases can be added to your .profile to disable or re-enable
mediaserverd if you are using MobileShell:

alias nosound="launchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/coreaudiod.plist"
alias sound="launchctl load /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/coreaudiod.plist"

While you have mediaserverd disabled ('nosound'), no other system sounds
will play, so be sure to re-enable it ('sound') when you're finished playing.

MORE ON SOUND

If you disable mediaserverd with the earbuds connected, no audio will be heard
through the speakers. Pull the earbuds out, and then start/stop mediaserverd
again. This will correct the problem. If it doesn't, try resetting.

It is recommended you always kill mediaserverd with the earbuds DISCONNECTED
to have both speaker and earbud support. If, however, you would like much
louder ear buds (and no speaker), resetting it with the earbuds in will
have this effect.

DiscoJoey, where can I find step by step instructions to install this?

There are actually three phases to the install, assuming you already have jailbreak running. If not, then count on 4 very detailed phases to get it running. I do technology for a living and it took my 3 good hours.

FYI - Sound isn't worth the effort atm. It's off quite a bit, so much so it detracts from most games.

And I don't know about anyone else, but it's very low too (low in volume). I'm not sure it ever played for me through the speaker, but it was barely audible even with headphones. Could have been the game, I only tried one or two (one of them was Pac Man).

You can follow each of these step-by-step guides to get the iPhone out of jail through to installing NES:

For Windows:
1.) Get out of jail:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_first_ten_steps_to_modding_windows.html

2.) Install SSH:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_install_ssh_windows.html

3.) Install NES*:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_install_nintendo_emulator_windows.html

Mac:
1.) Get out of jail:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_first_ten_steps_to_modding_mac.html

2.) Install SSH:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_install_ssh_mac.html

3.) Install NES*:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_install_nintendo_emulator_mac.html

* Instead of installing NES I recommend installing Installer. This will not only let you easily update NES but add other apps as well, all from the iPhone.:
Windows:
http://hacktheiPhone.com/iPhone_using_installer_app_windows.html
Mac:
I don't have a link for a Mac how-to, but if you simply add Installer.app instead of NES.app you should be fine.

Eh I would say more playable but still not perfect. Occasionally gets stuck. Saved games distort when returning to them. Multi touch is much improved but still not completely operational. All in all, it has come soo far. The NES team is awesome and are working on this think like crazy to make it continuously more and more awesome. Keep up the good work!

That's not very meaningful without knowing what the NES version was on that iPhone. Less than 2 weeks ago it was not even playable.

I don't know what there is to not be impressed by, it's just NES.

I'll take NES any day over nothing--which is about all you have, gaming wise, when you have no reception (or on a plane). LightsOff ain't bad either.

Mr. Tinman,

It was the latest version, .99 I believe.

isn't .58 the latest?

I accidentally erased all info from iPhone, so I started all over. But it worked great and once you do it once it took me all of 3 minutes to go through the whole jailbreak , ssh, nes process.

I suggest if anyone is having problems getting it to work like I did. Starting over and restarting your computer first.
