Maybe I just missed this earlier....

http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/

It looks to me like the screen isn't anything like other touch screens. You aren't actually pushing down on something. You're touching a hard surface and that is making an electrical connection the the layers underneath the hard outer surface.

I'm thinking all those old fashioned screen protectors aren't going to be necessary.

Yeah i saw that too. I'm not sure if it will scratch as easy as other touch screens but I'm sure there will be a possibility. I'll have to actually..well touch it before i make any assumptions.

Oh and just a question...are many of you going to be buying cases or silicone cases for your iPhones? I think it looks pretty darn durable!

whoa...i haven't seen those demos. nice stuff.

as for myself, i won't be getting a protective case. i hate putting a case over a phone, and since the iPhone is a phone first for me...no dice.

Yeah, i have one on my iPod now but thats just because of the delicate back. The iPhone looks pretty tough! And yet at the same time amazingly amazing.

I personally love the current Apple leather case for their 5th gen iPod, it fits it so snug and you can hardly tell its in there when its in your pocket, and it does a great job protecting it... I've had it a little over a year now and if you saw it, you'd be convinced I bought it a week ago. I hope they have something like this for the iPhone, if for only when i have other stuff in my pocket that could potentially damage it, or for when its in my backpack.

I still thought of having a case to at least slide mine in...not one that is IN it all the time, but one I can take it out of to use it, answer it, etc. Those ones you put the iPhone in permanently look somewhat janky.

Makes sense. I was thinking about a case, but I don't really like them.... It would be a good ideo on a trip to a theme park or something.. that way if you're running around and drop it then it wouldn't do as much damage.

I wouldn't bother with the screen protectors. Besides since the phone isn't even out yet, no one if it will work or not.

I usually don't like screen protectors, but, it is a $600 dollar investment and my phones have tended to become....well beaten. think of what else is in your pocket, a pens, change, paper clips... all nice and destructive to a screen

Well I usually got at least 2 pockets and I'll guarantee the iPhone won't be in the pocket with all the pens, change, paper clips, etc. It'll be in the empty pocket for sure!
