No custom ringtones actually might be a good thing for me

On my previous BB Pearl I had all kinds of custom ringtones, MP3s, etc. Since I can't do that easily with the iPhone (I know about iPhoneRingtoneMaker) I've been just using what's on the iPhone.

Surprisingly to me after a few weeks of use I'm actually liking being limited to these chosen ringtones...I don't have to worry about my phone going off at work and playing some embarrassing MP3 or in any public place, the selection of built-in ringtones are actually quite nice and I'm enjoying them.

I can imagine teenagers, college kids, etc. wanting these type of custom ringtones more than me but I guess my point is that the Apple default ringtones are actually good enough for me right now until/if Apple comes out with their own.

:p

I detest custom ringtones. Nothing screams "teenybopper" like hearing My Humps blasting out of a cell phone every time it rings.

I'm right with you - the choices Apple provides by default are more than enough for me. In fact, I almost always have my phone on vibrate anyway, so it doesn't make much difference.

I should have clarified, the custom ringtones I had on my BB Pearl were all classical music snippets

Those I wouldn't mind on my iPhone but I can wait.

So choice is bad now?

Uh huh.

Glad it suits you, but I want and expect this feature.

I'd estimate that 90% of my iPhone's usage is for work, and in environments where musical ringtones aren't really appropriate. It's obviously a matter of personal preference, but I have found most custom ringtones to be extremely cheesy & annoying.

Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks.

Yeah, I have a sonar ping for messages and a digitised old telephone ringer for my work profile. The music ones are more for outside.

Yeah, I guess there are many who are completely satisfied with having stock ringtones to use. However, I think it's more a matter of having the ability to choose rather than having to use custom ones (as has been stated). Although it certainly doesn't apply in this instance, I gotta say I despise hearing the default Nokia tune.

Custom ring tones are nice, but I *could* live without them since you can at least assign the built in ones to different contact. But I would like is tones for different email accounts and SMS messages. That way I can chose to not pick up my iPhone right away depending on the account / sender.

I've never used a custom ringtone in my life...and generally laugh my ass off when I hear them in public.

The only reason I want them now is so I can make a louder regular ringer for my iPhone.
