No more soft reset?

I remember in old iPhones when you held the standby and home button until the phone shutoff and keep holding it till the phone restarted up. Does this not work with the 3gs?

It works for me. Make sure you are pressing them hard enough and long enough, it shouldn't take more than a couple seconds to restart.

Yes, it does. You have to wait a bit. This is called a hard reset. A soft reset only involves the power button.

I have found a few times that on the old 3g 2.2x that i could release the buttons when i saw the white Apple logo. On the 3gs however, if i release the buttons upon sight of that icon, then the phone switches off and I have to hold the power button to turn it on.

In effect, this means I just hold the 2 buttons down longer...
