Nobody Can Hear Me!

Okay, so I've gone through a couple iPhones now. Both are experiencing the same problem. When I make a call, I can hear the other person completely fine, but they can't hear me. Most people would immediately guess that I just don't have a strong enough signal, but I have at least 2 or 3 bars the entire time. Can anybody think of a solution that could help me fix my problem? Could AT&T do something on their side to help people to be able to hear me?

yeah i'm having the same problem. i'm on my third iPhone and since i got this one a couple of days ago, i wasn't able to hear some of my friends answer. and vice versa. i went to Apple this morning and the genius didn't do anything about it because he didn't happen when he tested it. but he did write notes down to my account so that when i does act up again i'll be able to exchange with no problem.

I have the same problem WITHOUT the iPhone. My kids, and even other people, never listen to me, no matter what I say. AT&T won't help either.
Sounds like a sound input problem. Does it happen with both the built-in speaker and the headset microphone?

Well it's a little more reassuring to know it's not only me. I think I'll be calling AT&T on Monday.

I haven't tried I'd with this phone, but the other one didn't work either way.

It is an AT&T issue not the iPhone!

I have the same problem. It happens very often, I can hear the other person but they can't hear me and it is usually in the middle of the call. I've had this problem for a long time even before the iPhone time using different phones...
I called AT&T serveral times and they told me that everything looks OK. I even replaced the SIM card and still have the problem.

I also put my SIM card into my old phone and I'm still getting the same problems. I'm starting to suspect it's more AT&T's fault than the iPhone.

It's definitely and ATT problem. No matter if it's iPhone or other ATT/cingular phone it still happens. My mom has ATT and not iPhone and she has the same problem. I called them and they said they would try and send signals to my phone that should improve reception but it didn't do a thing. It's still bad in :( my house especially.

AT&T GSM Network Problem!

I wireless networks engineer, GSM, CDMA 1X-EVDO, UMTS_WCDMA.
AT&T have very overload GSM Network, it reason for poor voice quality, drop calls, extremely low EDGE speed. Solution? Try another GSM network if it possible with any GSM cell phone. Test it, voice good, data link speed good?
Unlock your iPhone and use in real good GSM Network! If it possible for you!
Any question? weird@pisem.net

Even if you are a Network Engineer.... Tell me how you can tell if their network is overloaded. The only way you would be able to tell if their network is overloaded is if you had access to their NOC, which I know you don't. Not defending AT&T or anything, but you're assuming a lot without factual information. Do you know how many radios they have per sector? What type of sectoring they're using? what's the max channels they have per sector?
I've worked CDMA as well, and well enough to know that CDMA and GSM are completely different.

Usually Sound quality can be effected by the tower, but 90% of the time it's cause by their LD provider/routing. Even though the network may be owned by AT&T, a lot of times they contract out to the lowest bidder for routing and what not, and problems are caused because these contractors use low quality lines and do a crappy job routing, Usually they cause problems such as Echo'ing, getting wrong numbers when dialed, One way comunication ( can hear, but not be heard ) Getting Odd Caller ID info when someone you know calls.. etc.. But in the Same aspect, some of these problems can be caused by equipment (Phones) as well.. best thing to do is see if the problem happens everytime you call people (try in different area codes) If it happens 100% of the time in all calls no matter where you call (different area codes as well) it's most likely in the phone.

How in the WORLD could someone with the apparent education of a 3rd grader be a wireless network engineer?
