Not able Multi-Task While on a Call

I will like to know if anyone else has had this problem I use the speaker phone often and on one occasion while on a boring conference call I attempted to browse the web with my iPhone I got the following message...

(EDGE data connections are not available while a call is active)



I hope they plan on fixing this; I am used to multitasking with my BB Pearl and I will like to do the same with my iPhone.

Is anyone else having this problem?

That cant be fixed. EDGE and Voice data cannot simultaneously be sent. This is a limitation with GSM itself. However, you can surf the web via WiFi during a call.

You can also do anything else while on a call, just not EDGE transmissions.

Have you never used a cell phone before? This limitation has been around since the beginning. 3G GSM and Rev A EVDO both allow simultaneous voice and data, so hopefully this issue won't be around in iPhone v2.
