Please don't laugh and no cheap shots from the iPad bashers, but I just thought of a way to listen to Pandora and work on your iPad at the same time. Just listen to Pandora on your iPhone while you work on your iPad. Seems like a simple solution to me :).

But what about those people that don't own an iPhone or iPod touch? Maybe the iPad is their first Apple device.

From what I understand, OS 4.0 will have some type of multitasking so we may not have to resort to using multiple devices.

Where is the evidence to suggest this?

Or Do you think that when the iPad's released, on 3.2, it'll have an update for 4.0 when the new iPhone is released?

As of right now, there is no solid evidence, it's nothing but speculation.

That’s right, y’all. We’re back at it, and this time we’ve received some exclusive iPhone OS 4.0 details from one of our trusty Apple connects.

Here are some iPhone OS 4.0 features, according to our guy:

  • There will be multi-touch gestures OS-wide. (Would make sense for that as the rumored OS for the iTablet is close if not the same as the iPhone)
  • “A few new ways” to run applications in the background — multitasking.
  • Many graphical and UI changes to make navigating through the OS easier and more efficient. We haven’t had this broken down, but we can only hope for improved notifications, a refreshed homescreen, etc.
  • The update will supposedly be available for only the iPhone 3G and 3GS, but will “put them ahead in the smartphone market because it will make them more like full-fledged computers” more than any other phone to date. Everyone is “really excited.”
  • The last piece of information is the most vague, but apparently there will be some brand new syncing ability for the contacts and calendar applications.
That’s all we have for now! Who can’t wait for next Wednesday?

Thanks, Lindsey!

I didn't see where someone referred to you as retarded. I saw where someone gave you an implied facepalm for suggesting the use of multiple devices to multi-task. They posted a funny pic. I thought you were joking when you made that plan. If that is not the case I will have to sit back and contemplate the thought of buying a couple more mobile Apple devices so I can get serious about multi-tasking.

I sure am glad that everyone else from the UK isn't as rude as you are. I was mostly just making a joke.
I was only playing with you, if I've caused offence, then I am sorry.

On a serious note, multi-tasking isn't about using multiple devices, it's about using one device for all of the your needs - Other phone's can do this already i.e Palm Pre, why can't the iPhone? The answer isn't to buy another one...

For future reference, perhaps a milder pic without the f-bomb and the word "retarded" would be more appropriate for a "breaking the ice" kind of joke. ;)

Sorry if I over-reacted. Anyway, I was kind of joking and kind of not-joking. I've seen so many folks post that they just have to have multi-tasking but the only app they mention is Pandora. And I thought I bet most of the folks have iPhones. So why not listen to Pandora on your iPhone while using your iPad. Just seemed like a simple solution to me. But I know that isn't a substitute for multi-tasking. For me, the lack of multi-tasking is no big deal. Like I said, Pandora is the only app I can think of that I would want to run simultaneously.

Use backgrounder on the iPhone. It's what the iPhone should have shipped with. Imagine you are playing a game, then somebody texts you, you then have to quit the app and launch the messages.app. With Backgrounder, pause the game, activate Backgrounder by holding down the Home button, then launch messages and reply to the text. When you've replied, simply quit messages and re-launch the game you were playing and it will be exactly how you left it.

I use it at least 5 times a day.

I think they are moving in that direction anyways. Apps are now being approved that allow the iPod to play in the background.
