phone and internet help please

Hi i,m having problems with my 3g phone it used to be pretty fast both the phone and the internet but now it seems to be really slow and trying to use the internet is just not worth bothering with as it takes so long to load, it wont stream a video anymore either, it all used to be fine some 6 months ago does anyone know why it's slowed down to much has anyone else had this problem?

What firmware version? How fast is your Internet connection?

If your internet connection is good and a hard reset doesn't help, try restoring it.

its 4.2.1 not tried a hard reset (do you mean format or reloading it?) my speed used to be really quick and worked fine but this was about over a year ago

No, that's a restore. Try a hard reset first. Press the home and power buttons at the same time. Ignore the slide to power off. Let go of both buttons when you see the Apple logo. It will take longer than normal to reboot. No data will be lost.

Do a speedtest on speedtest.net (or install the free app) and post your results.

It sounds like it's a combination of your Internet, the hardware, and perception. 3G might be faster than your WiFi. Streaming videos will stop to buffer quite a bit when it's under 2 Mbps, but it should load websites okay. The iPhone 3G is painfully slow when compared to the iPhone 4. Sometimes old devices seem slower than they used to be because we compare them to newer phones and run recent firmware and apps on them, which may requires more resources.

You could try testing it on a faster network and/or restoring it. But upgrading the phone and increasing your internet speed would be the best option.

yeh i,m starting to think its all these iPhone updates thats done it as when we bought the phones 2 years ago they both worked fine and loaded vids with ease now were on the 4os its slowed right down, were off to the shops in a bit to look at the iPhone 4 and the HTC evo 3d and see where i go from there never tried the iPhone 4 but i do like the idea of the larger screen on the HTC because of my eyes being crap lol...don't really wont to move away from iPhone though as i really like them..wondering what the new iPhone will be like tho and when it will come out

The iPhone 5 will (probably) be out in October. Not sure of the specs yet. It might have a bigger screen than the previous models. We'll find out at the iPhone event in September.

makes me think should i wait and see what the new iPhone will be as it could be a 4g or a 5 and whats going to be new on them no one seems to know, i,d hate to buy new phones now and find that the new iPhone far better lol

Download 3.1.3 here. Don't use Internet Explorer - it saves it as the wrong file type. Press the shift key, then the restore button in iTunes, and then browse for the firmware file (.ipsw).

Keep in mind that several of your apps will probably not work on 3.1.3.

ok Thanks for that i,ll give that a go in next day or so and let you know how i go
