Alright, I know there is a file I forgot to add when I did the intial set up with jailbreak. Here is my problem. I modded my phone, never had any problems, even looks great! Well, I synced with iTunes today and it said it has found a phone in recovery mode, and I need to restore the phone. Well I do not want to lose all the mods and progress I made, so I know there is a file I need to install using iPhoneInterface, but I need someone to tell me which file it is and a quick run down how to get it on there, if that is indeed my problem. Any help would be great! Thanks!

We wouldn't be able to tell you which file you forgot to add to your folder if we don't know what you currently have in there.

Unfortunately, once the phone is in recovery mode, you have to restore it in order to use it again. Adding a file to your modding folder won't change anything. I know you don't want to lose your mods, but at this point, it seems inevitable. :(

thanks for the reply, I just figured out, I downloaded the iPhone update and thats what did me in. I guess I am ok with losing my mods, but will I lose all my contacts and such too?

Thankss in advance

I have an iPhone 3G running software version 3.1.2... I jailbroke using Blackra1n a couple of weeks ago and have had no problems at all until yesterday evening when my phone decided to reboot itself and come back on in recovery mode.

I have tried re-jailbreaking but that gets stuck at the reboot stage, so I have tried a DFU restore through iTunes, which keeps bringing up an error message telling me that it can't be restored.

Any help would be massively appreciated!

1611.

I have tried everything that Apple suggests on their website but still no luck.

We can help you better if you list the what you have already tried. Have you tried restoring with a different computer and a new USB cable? Also try creating a new user on the computer, reinstalling iTunes, and restoring in safe mode.

ahh. the infamous Unknown Error (1611)

if you've tried all the steps in Apple KB TS1275, go ahead and call 1-800-My-iPhon and tell the Advisor you've received a restore error 1611. They will probably troubleshoot a bit, ask some questions... but it's looking like your iPhone has some hardware issues. :(

the bright side is: if you're still under the 1-year hardware warranty (or have purchased Applecare Protection Plan) then you'll get a replacement phone.

:EDIT:
if AT ALL possible, try the restore on a different computer. if thats not possible, atleast create a new user on the computer and try the restore.

Of course Europa... I tried restoring on a different computer, with a different cable, on a different user, reinstalling iTunes... everything!

Thanks for your input though guys. I will give Apple a call and see what they say. I had a new replacement in August so hopefully that came with a full 12-month warranty if it comes to having to replace it...

whenever you get your phone replaced, your replacement iPhone has the same warranty that was left on your original iPhone.

...as I was told on the phone, Mikey! Damnit!

Computerfox, have your friends managed to resolve the problem that way? Do I just need to re-JB with pwnagetool, or do I need to restore to the custom IPSW?

I have a 3G not a 3GS so it shouldn't be tethered... It has rebooted without re-running blackra1n before anyway, and when I did try that this time it didn't work... I literally felt it buzz in my pocket the other evening then looked and found it in recovery mode, where it has been stuck ever since!

Thanks though, psylichon.

I'm going into the Apple shop tomorrow (the closest one to me is 40 miles away, so I've had to wait... feels like I've been without an arm for the past few days!) to sort myself out a replacement... I just thought there might have been one last glimmer of hope after Computerfox's post!

Hi,

I have a jailbroken iPhone (done with blackra1n, currently running version 3.1.2), and it is now stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. I've exhausted all options, holding buttons down and everything else. Nothing is working! I've taken the phone to Apple and they did something that made my lock screen come up and they saw it was jailbroken, so they refused to help any further and told me to buy a new phone or just try to keep restoring it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!
