Hi,

I have a jailbroken iPhone (done with blackra1n, currently running version 3.1.2), and it is now stuck in recovery mode and will not restore. I've exhausted all options, holding buttons down and everything else. Nothing is working! I've taken the phone to Apple and they did something that made my lock screen come up and they saw it was jailbroken, so they refused to help any further and told me to buy a new phone or just try to keep restoring it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks!

1-why would you bring a jb iPhone to the Apple store expecting them to help?
2-does your computer detect the phone when plugged in?
if it does then just plug it in and try restoring again. download the original firmware, left click (or if you're on a mac command+click), and choose the firmware that you downloaded. the easiest way to make sure that you are restoring with the correct firmware is if you save it on your desktop.

Which firmware version are you trying to restore to? Is it a custom firmware?

you can try this:
Turn off your phone and disconnect the cable. With iTunes open, hold down the home button and connect your phone. Keep holding the home button for about 30 seconds or until you hear the "new hardware detected" tone. That should get iTunes to recognize the phone.
The other thing to try is to uninstall everything that is Apple/iTunes from your add/remove programs list as well as Bonjour, and then reinstall the same version of iTunes (hopefully you have the install exe still on your PC).
The follow the first steps I gave and see if you can get it to see your phone that way.

I have been through all of this before, so there is a way out. The only other thing I can think of is getting tinyumbrella and using that to kick the phone out of recovery.
