Hey Guys,

I'm new to the forums so please redirect me if this has already been discussed. I currently am in a family plan with myself and my mom so we have two lines. We just switched to cingular a few months ago so according to the website, we cannot purchase a new phone at 2 yr activation price until march of 2008.

when i go in to buy the iPhone...will i have to pay 300 bucks to cancel my plan and then order a new plan just so i get it for the right price? or will i be able to extend it. i didn't unsterstand the other posts.

thanks

you will most likely be able to extend your contract. The only time they trip is when you get a free cel on the previous 2yr contract other than that they usually have no probs extending it. that's been my experience anyway

There is no renewal upgrade price on the iPhone. Because there is no equipment subsidy, there will only be two prices. $499 for 4 GB and $599 for 8 GB. It doesn't matter when your contract renewal comes up or when you started your current contract, if you want an iPhone and you get in line early enough at a corporate At&t/Cingular store, then you should be able to get one for a 2 year extension to your current contract. So instead of your contract lasting until march '08, now it will last until March '10.

Good luck!

Doesn't a contract extension usually just restart at the date it was extended rather than taking on an additional two years? I'm pretty sure Verizon works that way.

If that's true, then a data plan may not be required. I guess they could just bank on the $.01/Kb charge (by use charge) if people choose not to get one. At&t will make a lot of money on those people, but it will make many, many, people on EI very happy if they don't have to purchase a data plan when they buy the phone.
