You might want to try another usb port on your computer, and also open up iTunes before connecting your iPhone that might help.
Also find out if you have too many programs running on your computer at startup, that sometimes kills the connection between the iPhone and the usb port. Make sure you have enough ram , i have a gig and with windoes vista i probably need more, hope this helps

hmm, maybe on select startup you have something turned off that should be on for iTunes. My iPhone dosent always get recognized when I plug it in, I usually have to restart the computer and open iTunes and then plug it in. If its getting recognized on your friends cpmputer, then at least we know the problem is with your computer and not your iPhone. If you friend is running xp as well maybe you can run a msconfig and duplicate his startup and services protocal, good luck and hope this helps ya

every now and then my iTunes doesn't seem to recognize my iPhone. I usually just turn the phone off and wait a minute before I turn it back on. While waiting, I close iTunes and then open it back up. Has worked every time for me. But it doesn't sound like my problem was as severe as yours.

Why not call Apple support?

thanks everyone. I spent some time with Apple support and no change. HOWEVER, after trying again and again to re-install 7.4 and 7.3, I tried once more uninstalling and reinstalling 7.3, and it worked! Needless to say, I am sticking with 7.3 for the time being. Perhaps when I work up the courage I will switch to 7.4.0 for the ringtones. thx again

iTunes

How did you do it? I have 7.3 and XP SP2, the computer only recognize "Apple Model Device" in the usb device manager. I tried many method, including, plug into different usb, restart in the my computer, service area, I have a GIG of memory and still did not work.

I turn on the iTunes first, then plug in, nothing happens!

Any advices.

hey guys, i had the same problem a while ago, and here's what i did to fix it:

acosmichippo said:
1) open "run" from the start menu, and run "services.msc".
2) find "Apple Mobile Device".
3) In the "status" column it will tell you if the process is started or not, and the "startup type" column will tell you if the process will start automatically when windows starts. The goal here is to set the status to "started" and the startup type to "automatic".
4)To do this right click on this process, and then click on "Properties"
5) In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected. Select it if it is not.
6) Also in the general tab check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button.
7) at the bottom of the properties window click "apply"
hope that helps someone out.

I had similar problem. I had to go to start/run/ type in services.msc. Look for the Apple Mobile Device, click on it and start. Once you click on start under the status bar it should say "Started"

Hi Guys,

I've tried almost everything and I still got the problem, when plugged in to my computer PC WIndows XP Sp2 the iTunes "Version 7.5" do not find the iPhone and froze, I need to unplugged the iPhone and restart the iTunes to get on working, Immediately after I did the same with my Ipod and it sync and recognizes the device so I’m completely lost at the moment.

Any extra help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance

have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes?

Hi acosmichippo,

Yes I've checked that I had also checked the "devmgmt.msc" and I have all correct at least as they say.

On the last hour or so I've tried again and no positive results, I don't know if I have on my firewall a setting that blocks the communication I'm not an expert and the last thing I want is start changing what I don't know.

Once again thanks in advance

have you tried uninstalling iTunes, and then reinstalling it? this has been known to clean up any software flukes that may arise... especially on PCs.

Yes I also did that, I downloaded the iTunes again and nothing.

I'm living in UK, so I don't know if there are anything different to do, next step I will call to Apple Support and will see.

Many thanks
