I had to activate the phone on my friend's macbook. i have a pc, i have upgraded to iTunes 7.4, and tried 7.3; it recognizes my ipod like always, but has yet to recognize my phone.
I am so sad. please help!

You might want to try another usb port on your computer, and also open up iTunes before connecting your iPhone that might help.I had to activate the phone on my friend's macbook. i have a pc, i have upgraded to iTunes 7.4, and tried 7.3; it recognizes my ipod like always, but has yet to recognize my phone.I am so sad. please help!
hmm, maybe on select startup you have something turned off that should be on for iTunes. My iPhone dosent always get recognized when I plug it in, I usually have to restart the computer and open iTunes and then plug it in. If its getting recognized on your friends cpmputer, then at least we know the problem is with your computer and not your iPhone. If you friend is running xp as well maybe you can run a msconfig and duplicate his startup and services protocal, good luck and hope this helps yathx i tried all of that stuff...my usb ports are all working as evidenced by connecting my ipod to each one...already on select startup in xp...tried all forms of connecting before/after iTunes started, etc...i don't know what to do!
Where did you find an older version of iTunes?thanks everyone. I spent some time with Apple support and no change. HOWEVER, after trying again and again to re-install 7.4 and 7.3, I tried once more uninstalling and reinstalling 7.3, and it worked! Needless to say, I am sticking with 7.3 for the time being. Perhaps when I work up the courage I will switch to 7.4.0 for the ringtones. thx again

hope that helps someone out.acosmichippo said:1) open "run" from the start menu, and run "services.msc".
2) find "Apple Mobile Device".
3) In the "status" column it will tell you if the process is started or not, and the "startup type" column will tell you if the process will start automatically when windows starts. The goal here is to set the status to "started" and the startup type to "automatic".
4)To do this right click on this process, and then click on "Properties"
5) In the "general" tab find the "startup type" drop-down arrow menu and make sure "automatic" is selected. Select it if it is not.
6) Also in the general tab check the "service status". If it does not say "started" then click the start button.
7) at the bottom of the properties window click "apply"
I also had to do this. It was frustrating since I did not know what I was doing.mine did that, i reinstalled iTunes and restarted phone/ computer and it worked.
have you checked the status of the service "Apple mobile device"?
have you tried uninstalling & reinstalling iTunes?
