Does anyone know if it's possible to get a free phone after you have already activated your iPhone? The guy in the AT&T store said I would have to cancel my service, then I could reorder the same service and get a free phone (paying another activation fee and getting a different phone number - if I wanted to keep my number I would probably have to pay another activation fee to another carrier). Then I assume I should be able to reactivate my iPhone with the new number. It seems like a lot of hassle but it would be nice to have another phone for skiing or when the iPhone needs service.

Well I saw this done on iDay. Some people went into the store switched to AT&T service and got the free phone that was offered with new contracts. Hooked it up, used it for an hour, and then when the iPhone came out they just went in and bought an iPhone and already had their contract set up.

I guess you could do it, but I don't believe there are any free phone offers so you might have to pay like 10-20 bucks but don't quote me on that.

Seems like a lot of work for a free phone.
