I hope Apple has plenty of beefed up servers ready. If I can't get on I'm going to be mad! Waking up at 2 for nothing.

Called Apple, AT&T and Verizon. All had no idea what the ordering system will entail. I figure worst case sceario I will order the 2 phones with whatever new numbers then have them changed in a week and take care of all the transferring then. Easy

I am still on the "Grandfathered" unlimited iPhone Data Plan . I picked up my iPhone4 on launch day over 2 years ago. Will it make a difference if I preorder the iPhone5 from Apple rather than AT&T ? I don't want to lose my current data plan .

It would not matter where you got you iPhone, Apple, best buy or AT&T, you would still keep it. I have been on the unlimited plan and have not gotten mine from AT&T.

Rumors are floating about that they are trying to get away from the unlimited plans. Be careful that they don't talk you into this or do it without your knowledge.

As far as where to preorder from, I would preorder in person. For me, it will have to be at an AT&T or Best Buy store since I do not have an Apple store anywhere near me. In person is just better in my opinion. You can discuss with them what you want and exactly which plan you want, or that you want to keep the unlimited plan *most* of us are currently on.

Had a great preorder experience with the new ipad but I'm not sure how to go about getting the iPhone 5 on the first day its available. I apologize if this has already been addressed.

I have an iPhone 4 which will be going to my wife. I'm on the family share plan (I have grandfathered unltd data- (don't use much- usually on wifi) My line is not yet eligible for an upgrade but I have 2 lines that are. Will I need to go through ATT to order? If so is standing in line the only option? Thanks

You can pre order via AT&T or Apple websites..

You can also use the Apple Store App (free in the app store)

If you don't pre order and want it on launch day, then yes you will need to wait in line at a store..

You can preorder any eligible line & change things after you receive it. The only thing that might cause a hiccup is if the new iPhone has a different sim. Then you may have to actually go into the store to get a new sim(s).

I'm giving up on my Target reservation and have decided to order online today. Apple just says October for shipping, AT&T says 7-14 businesss days (which is October as well), does anyone have a guess or anecdotal evidence as to which may get it here faster?

Is there a benefit to ordering directly from Apple over AT&T or vice versa?

Thank you :)

I do not believe that there is a difference in shipping times if you order from Apple or AT&T. It all depends on when they get it officially shipped and who they use for shipping. For me, I believe I have used Apple every time when ordering online.

I know it's a different carrier and it may not have any impact on AT&T, but a friend of mine ordered a gold 5S from Verizon yesterday and she was told that it would not arrive until NOVEMBER 14! She wanted to get it ordered so she just placed the order. Apple still says it can be delivered in October. So BIG difference there.

Apple's website says available to ship in October. They don't mention when it will be delivered.
