I tried to do a restore (was having issues).

Now when the phone turns on, after a minute of the Apple logo, I just get the logo with a spinning wheel, and a double-vibrate.

It won't go past this.

Help?

FIrst, is it a V1 or 3G? and are you inside of your first year warranty? Were you Jailbroken? What version firmware.
Second, Try this: Power off the phone. Launch iTunes. Connect the phone and wait till iTune sees it. Connecting your phone should automatically turn it on. ( if it doesn't see it, see below)
If iTunes sees your phone, do a search for IPSW files on your PC, write down the name of the newest one and then delete it. If it is the latest version of firmware, 2.1, then click restore in iTunes and it will re-download the firmware and install. if it was older, you need to search the web for it, donwload it to where the original file was, and then- while holding down the shift key, click restore, browse to the ipsw file and select the new one. Hopefully that will solve your problem.

If iTunes does NOT see your phone, you will need to set the phone in DFU mode and restore from there. Search for DFU mode on here for the exact instructions. Its been a while for me, so I cant tell you how to do it.

It was the backup I was using. I was on a jailbreaked (jailbroken) 3G 2.1. I thought using the jailbreak backup would be ok, but it's not apparently.

All good now, used a month old backup.

i had the extact same problem today.
i couldnt use any of my old backups so i had to start all over from scratch and now so far it works fine.

i had an issue tho with downloading games, they would dl and install but not show up on my springboard. i would go to bossprefs then to poof, it would show the games icons as on, but wouldn't be there... eventually after i downloaded a random app they appeard, very random.

any idea what's causing this? this and the fact that when i tried to launch apps and games and they would crash at their main screen is the main reason i restored the iPhone

I am not one of those people that is going to tell you jailbreaking is a bad thing, but it seems with this last go around, there have been a lot of problems on the user side.
It seems like every day or every other day there seems to be a new post about someone who thinks that they bricked their phone or they are stuck at either the Apple logo or the connect to iTunes logo. Granted, 90% of these are easily solved, but there shouldn't be this many problems with it, should there?

I also performed a restore after having the same symptoms of the OP. It did the "spinning wheel/double vibrate all night long so I did the restore. This was on a jailbroken V1. I did not re-jailbreak my phone since the last 2 times I had problems. Phone works now but one big problem is most of the apps showing up in iTunes are not showing up on my springboard. I tried deleting some of them in iTunes and then downloading them but no matter what I do they won't show up on the iPhone. I suspect it may have something to do with one of the apps I installed that put the icons on the springboard into folders as those seem to be the ones that are missing. Just a guess though.

I hate to say it, but you might need to jailbreak and SSH into the phone to move those apps back to where they need to be, and then restore again.
