I live in an area with spotty AT&T coverage. Some phones work fine, others not at all.

I know there is a 10% restocking fee if you return the phone. I also know there is a $175.00 early termination fee on the AT&T contract.

So, if I don't get adequate reception at my home and want to return the iPhone do I have to pay both fees?

Thats iffy. Whether or not AT&T charges you is up to them. If you have BAD service at your home you can argue it with them and maybe they will let it slide. You will also need to pay the restocking fee SHOULD you choose to return it.

I got a blackjack back in January and had it for 3 weeks, saw the keynote and decided I wanted the iPhone. I went to a completely different AT&T from where I bought it, they didn't have enough cash to refund me so had to mail a check. I was charged NO restocking fee and NO ET fee, even though I still have AT&T, so maybe that had to do with the no ET fee.

They're being very specific about the 10% restocking fee. If you're not sure it will work at your house, then you might want to borrow someone's Cingular phone at the places you'll be using it. That way you can save yourself the aggravation and the $60.

with AT&T, you have 30 days to return your phone if you are not satisfied and you won't be charged the early termination fee. so to recap:

1. you have 14 days to return the iPhone, but if opened you pay a 10% restocking fee.

2. you have 30 days to cancel your service agreement from the day you signed it and you wont have to pay the early termination fee.

10% restocking fee, if the seal is broken (unique to iPhone - Apple policy).
You may return the device within 14 days of purchase in cases of buyers remorse (14 day period also unique to iPhone - Apple policy).

As far as the contract goes, you have a 30 risk free period from date of activation, Cancel within the 30 days, you only pay for activation plus usage.

Outside the 30 days, yeah... you'll have to pay the termination fee.
