ModMyiPhone forum user Poetic Folly has some interesting details on how Apple will be handling "iDay" on Friday. According to their source (concierge at the local mall – we know, not exactly airtight ), Apple is keeping things fair, with 500 numbered and color coded wristbands to be handed out to to the line at 5pm Friday, an hour before the official opening of the store. 24 hour security starts today, along with stancheons, so early birds will have somewhere to queue. Customers will be let in in groups of 50, with the first group at 5.50pm. Best of all, Apple is trucking in Porta-Potties for the event.
This all makes sense. I was at the launch for OS X 10.4 Tiger in the London Apple Store, and the crowd management was tight, fairly friendly and very efficient. The mall part seems to ring true, also. Poetic Folly is from Tampa, Florida, and the Apple Store there is inside the International Plaza.
True or false, we don't know. But 500 iPhones? If that's typical of all the stores on launch, this will be a big opening weekend for Apple.
