I just set up the voicemail password and tried to call my iPhone from my old verizon phone which is still active. I made a custom greeting but when I call my iPhone, it says "your call cannot be completed as dialed..blah blah blah" but my iPhone did ring. Do i have to change anything in the settings or something? anyone having the same problem? any tips would help. thanks

Me too!

Please help if you are having this issue. My husband and I both have new iPhones....I get the occasional visual voice mail but am getting, "this call can not be completed as dialed" every time I call my husband's phone.

My voicemail keeps going straight to dialing in to voicemail rather than displaying the voicemails. I can't seem to get a visual voicemail to work.

Anyone have any suggestions. Thanks.

same here in Los Angeles, CA. and I was on the phone with AT&T all evening. guy did everything he could think of to fix it. finally, said to call back monday when their specialists are in. he thought that maybe the porting process was incomplete somehow. i'm coming from verizon.

Thanks. I'm a pre-existing AT&T so i figured it should work fine.
Will try seeing what the guys at the Apple store say tomorrow.

i"ll let you know what i find.

Ditto

I'm having the same problem. At first, I couldn't access voicemail at all - the specialist at the AT&T store had to mess around with the SIM Card to program it with a number that the phone would use to access the voicemail. He doesn't know what's wrong - but he thinks it may have to do with the SIM card. I think it's an AT8T issue.

Los Angeles here. Same issue as well. I decided not to even attempt to call ATT as they are hugely backlogged with non-activations (it took me almost 20 hours to activate) ARGH! BTW I ported from Sprint.

You have to set up the visual voicemail. From the home screen hit phone, then hit voicemail at the bottom. It should prompt you to set up the voicemail.

Ok. Went to att. They said it was Apple software problem and sent me to Apple store. Apple said it was Att problem But, they actually called att and finally got it solved.

Seems it is a problem in the activation phase for some existing att customers. Apparently, despite checking the data plans, etc. at activation, it didn't register.

So, anyone having this problem, call Att and have them basically re-set up your plan. Power off, then you will be able to walk through the set-up under the voicemail icon.

Hey Guys,

Just wanted to say I had the same problem. I went to the ATT store and gave me the simple solution.

Dial 611 from your phone. It will ask you your number.
Press 1.
It will then ask you a few options. The voicemail option is the 3rd.
Press 3.
It will then ask you if you want to reset your password among other options.
Press 3 again.
It will then ask you to verify your zip code for security reasons.
Enter your zip code.
It well then tell you you will receive a text message with your new password.
Wait a few minutes, then go to your visual voicemail screen.
It will ask you to set up your new password and greeting (just like when you first bought your iPhone).

Go to it, and you're finished!
Hope this helped ;)

Solution to NO problem

This is not an issue. this happens because the phone number transfer has not been completed yet. I had to wait a good 24 hours for my iPhone to be able to make and receive calls properly. If you call ATT, they'll be able to tell you when your iPhone will be operational (at least they were able to for me)
