How did you activate your iPhone 3GS?

In particular, if you have a family plan with multiple phones where you are using an older phone's eligibility to upgrade, but keeping your current number.

If phone was delivered by mail, did you just activate at home via iTunes?

Did you need to go into any ATT stores?

I was the first one in to my AT&T store. Took about 8 minutes total to port both me and wife over from our V1s. No sim swap was necessary, phones were activated in the store, and I was quite pleased.

I did it this morning. Thought there was a short delay, I finally realized I had to restart the phone for it to activate. FML.

I had mine activated in the Apple store at about 7:15 this morning. Took about two minutes.
Same here... pretty smooth. The manager came out at about 630a and took the receipts for the people that had pre-ordered to pull the boxes out and make things run smoother which they did.

She insisted on using the new SIM which was fustrating because I had my #s saved on the old one. But she put the old one in, transferred the numbers and boom!

Got my 3GS here at the office.

1. Removed the sim from my V1 iPhone and put it into the 3GS
2. Turned on the 3GS and it booted up and wanted to connect to iTunes.
3. Connected to iTunes and followed the prompts. 3GS activated a just a couple of minutes.
4. My original sim works in the V1 and the 3GS iPhone.
5. The sim that came with the 3GS has not been utilized at all.

Me too. It was a matter of minutes and had no problems with the back up or anything. I never switched phones before so didn't realize all my conversations and everything would be saved. VERY please with my activation.

My phone is all restored and functional, except it's not connected to AT&T and a message comes up that says "Waiting for activation This may take some time."

Same here. Called AT&T / iPhone support. They said the activation servers are all backed up. He couldn't give me a time frame.

My phone is still in Texas, too. Fortunately, that is where I am, as well.

Don't give up hope. I never even got a tracking number from AT&T, and when I called the information line it still gives the message that my phone should ship by the next businesss day.

Unfortunately I am in New York, not in Texas...I keep hearing trucks outside my house but I have to realize that today is not the day
