Is Apple a company trustworthy enough to buy an iPhone 1.0? Or should they be trusted as much as Microsoft and Nintendo? :)

i am trusting them. Might be some software problems. But a download can fix those. Hardware problems----Apple has pretty good warranty. They will want great reviews on the iPhone so I figure that they will take care of us if something goes wrong.

I bought the first gen iPod day one back in the day and will be in line first day(and the night before) as well.

I too bought one of the first generation iPods. While not nearly as cool, as small, as cheap, etc as the versions that came out after it, it still works fine and I never had any problems.

A first generation computer (Intel switch?), I'd take a pass on but with the iPhone... I wouldn't worry about it.

It's going to be too stressful trying to get the iPhone when it first comes out. I think I'm going to try to relax and be satisfied with what I have until I feel comfortable with what the iPhone has to offer. The phone itself looks very promising but I couldn't buy a locked phone, so I'd might as well wait until they've got all the bugs out of it and it's been unlocked anyways.

There are guaranteed "issues" to be had with a first rev product. If you can't deal with those issues then don't, but if you like to be on the cutting edge and can tolerate those things then there's no question you need it.

However, I imagine Steve is doing everything he can to make this as perfect as possible on launch day. If there are a couple extra surprises, no major problems, and supply is ready, this will be a very successful launch.

The solution is quite simple: buy 1.0 AND 1.1. People who bought the first gen iPod may have also bought gen 4.

Exactly! If you buy 1.0, then immediately once 1.1 is available you sell 1.0 there will still be a lot of interest for the 1.0 product to get top dollar.

But I'm hoping that most "issues" in 1.0 are fixed through software or other means without having to buy a new device.

Wonder if you'd get penalized by ATT/Apple for wanting to upgrade to the 1.1 device during the contract.
