I don't understand why they didn't just make it silver.
More options. I think a lot of people will go will always go with the darkest color available if they have a choice.
Yep,
What's old is new again, indeed.

Funny thing is, if I hold my 5 with lots of light reflecting off of it, it looks like Space Gray...

Wonder if the change had anything to do with "scuffgate".
That was my guess. Anodized black over silver on wear points wasn't a great idea.

I decided I would get the darkest color they offer, The Space Gray. Seeing it next to the Slate makes me long for it. However, there is nothing wrong with the Space Gray.

My only question is, since they are using the gray back and the aluminum sides will there still be a scuffgate situation with this color although it's not black? Should I expect to never see nicks or scratches on the back and sides of the iPhone 5s Space Gray? Or if there are scratches and nicks would they be virtually invisible because of the exposed aluminum?

I'm thinking the back is not slate but it is not impervious to showing damage because it is still a darkish color.

This is irrelevant to me and most people. I will cover my back with a slickwrap and most people will put the phone in a case.

Not as many as people that use cases. Where I am from I've never seen a bumper being used on the 5, it's almost always cases.
I don't think it's irrelevant even if when someone uses a case. The color still matters even though it can't be seen at the time.

The only reason it may matter for me would be for the resale value (people may be partial to a particular color). I could not tell you what that color may be though. I know people care about color despite hiding it behind a hideous case.

I guess it's a matter of opinion too, too bad you are in the minority

Take the poll

http://iphone.appstorm.net/general/weekly-poll/weekly-poll-does-your-iphones-color-matter/
So let me get this straight, you're saying most people don't care what color their iPhone 5S is and you're using a random poll from 2011 with misleading/poorly chosen questions as evidence?

Start a poll here and give people four options:
1. Silver
2. Gold
3. Space Grey
4. Don't care

I guarantee you that #4 will not be the the most popular choice. It will be the least.

Notice there is an option for the iPhone 5, the 5S isn't out yet so was not able to find an appropriate poll with the 5S included.

You guarantee without evidence? Now that, is misleading. I have an idea, lets start the poll here on this forum. I may loose because not popular like you :D

Yeah. I'm pretty confident on this one.
