ok i am by NO means a seasoned phone hacker , modder or innovator.... but on all my old moto phones(v3, v3xx. krzr) i had to seem edit the volume table to fix the soft volume issue. now that there is a drag and drop program that actually shows you the menu and system folders i wonder if we can find the volume table and edit it....i am at work right now and don't have access to the modding programs but i wanted to see what you guys thought about it?

one way to get around having to mod any files is to make the decibal rating on your songs higher when you upload them. i did it for phil vassar - just another day in paradise and its probably twice as loud as the other custom ringers i put on the phone.

problem is not maybe the volume setting within the phone, its the speaker itself; if you load your own ringers and turn the ring volume up all the way, put your ear down by the speaker of your phone and you'll notice a good amount of distortion in the sound quality... the speakers in the phone just arent that great... even listening to youtube videos you can get the same distortion.

I have a strong feeling he is referring to the Headset/Speaker Phone volume whilst on calls.

if hes referring to speakerphone volume and earpiece volume... then heres my response for that:

the earpiece on my phone is able to be turned up loud enough that it hurts my ear to have it that loud. i can understand the speakerphone issue as its not overly loud but again if you turn it up too much it may end up being distorted as well... ive only used speaker a couple times though... if i want my hands free i plug the headphones in and talk using that...

I experience the same problem. This phone has the worst volume of any phone I've had. But all the other features are so cool, it's worth it. I'm just praying that Apple or someone else will make the volume louder.

In my opinion, Apple will have to or their product has failed (since it is a phone before anything else).

I haven't because I can't wear that stuff in the kind of work I'm in. The headsets that come with it are loud if you use them too, but if you can't wear headsets at work it doesn't do any good, thus the volume needs to be louder.

Sorry I can't help ya on the headset volume.

SEEM edits haven't done that since my KRZR, but you're right. Unfortunately it seems the gui iPhone interface and the dos based version both don't show all the files or they are embedded in some system files, we still have yet to susccessfully find any of the animations, i found 1 masked as a .mov but thats about it. In do time we will, the phones been out for 3 weeks and look what we have accomplished, a major mod we broke over at modmyiPhone yest. was the background images, so i am confident we can do this as well

again i know you all are having issues with volume level of the earpiece, however i have had 2 iPhones already. when in the middle of a call, turn the volume up on the side of the phone as high as it goes... i swear to you on my life you must not have the phone up as high as it goes... i promise i am not calling you all retarded, i know thats a normal thing to do is reach for the volume in mid call when its too low, but i work as a club promoter and went from my motorola v3i to the iPhone and my iPhone is by far louder in earpiece volume (both of them, i bought the first one on a thursday, was at the clubs thurs fri sat night and then returned it monday and was at the club wed night and was able to hear while upstairs in my skybox right next to the dj booth)

i hate to say it, but maybe its a hardware thing among phones purchased at different times (see the thread about different screen types from initial release iPhones to current release iPhones)

maybe they changed the earpiece? either way i am completely satisfied with the volume level and i will do some looking to see if i can find volume controls within the iPhone, and let you all know if i find anything of note.

ps i just thought of it as another possibility of not having the tiny centimeter wide earpiece properly aligned with your ear canal... i remember the very first day i had my phone i was having problems placing the earpiece properly against my ear and was having a hard time hearing as well... maybe check that too?

I can't get in this file SystemSoundMaximumVolume.plist to edit the settings. I am using Vista. Can some one with a MAC open and edit this file. I have seen the settings inside the file (was shown), but haven't found any way of doing it with a PC.

I fixed my ringer issues by adding custom ringers in, and making them in iTunes. It allows you to adjust volume levels of the files... Now, some of them are too loud!

thats what i was trying to say earlier, but they are talking about the earpiece volume when you're in a conversation with someone... as well as the speakerphone volume. thats why everyone is curious about editing the file that controls the volume!

volume on phone (while on calls) IS too low

Yes, the phone volume while on a call.. NOT Headset, NOT RINGER, NOT Bluetooth headset.

While you have the phone in your hand, next to your head.. (It's too low) volume with headset(s) is great.

Someone please hack this .. PLEASE!
