So how many charges is the battery good for?

Has Apple provided any information on the lifespan of the iPhone battery? In particular, how many hours can it charge before it needs to be replaced?

I remember seeing 400. I have heard elsewhere as many as 500.

That is full charging though.

400 is what Apple said (see links below)
http://www.apple.com/batteries/ (there is a iPhone like in this text to the one below)

http://www.apple.com/batteries/maximizing-performance/

I found two places on Apple.com that are a great resource for this question. The batteries links talks all about what to do and how to make your batteries last longer. Aslo talked about how long it should last and the like.

I've read through all the tips on the Apple site and in the manual. But I'm still wondering if there is an advantage to shutting it completely off for the night (versus just putting it in sleep).

For long term battery life, which is preferred for overnight (assuming you don't need to charge)?

1. locked, charging in dock
2. locked, out of dock
3. completely shut off
