So, on my lunch break, I went to my nearest AT&T store to get my credit pre-approved. He did not hear of a code, so I didn't get the pre-approved code, but at least I know that it will go through on iDay.

However, as soon as I was about to leave, he told me to go to the Apple store, buy the phone, then come back to him, and he will give me a free BT Headset and waive the activation fee.

Does this seem legit? Can AT&T activate the phone without iTunes? I need to port my old number over, can AT&T do this without iTunes as well?

Sounds like a comission scam to me.

Anyways the training specifically says they have no way of activating the phone in store so I don't know how that will happen.

Sounds like he wants you to bring the Apple iPhone in so he can register the serial number under his name so when he sends you home he will get a commission for it.
Then he will just be like, aww my boss can't let me do the activation, and we don't have any more free headsets.

So Cal USA
these friggin AT&T slimeballs will do anything to get their comission. That's why I'll be going to the Apple store so it wont be the "what do I have to do today to get you into a bigger and better plan" used car lot deal...

He can't activate the phone in the store, but if he's a manager or something, I bet he has the power to waive the activation fee. All he has to do is probably access your account and remove it.

i think its worth it to do this just to waive the activation fee. if they don't have the headsets for free or the ability to activatie it at their store, who cares...you do have it in writing and hopefully they will atleast waive the fee.

Of course they can. There's got to be at least a few customers out there that are interested in the phone, that do not have a computer. (thus, no iTunes)

If you have it in writing and they pull that they don't have the headsets, then tell them to issue you something so you can get it when it comes back in stock.

How can he just give away a headset though?

Shoot, you don't know sales very well...lol
As a salesperson, and you sit down with your general sales manager and tell him you're ready to close, but you just need one more cherry to top it off with, and it's done,........they'll write it off. lol

Good luck going back and them actually having the APPLE bt headset in stock. The AT&T rep can't get commission for a phone he didn't sell guys. Even if he records the IMEI #, the commissions run off of the pre-approved credit code that prints on your sales receipt. So if he didn't sell you the phone, there will be no receipt for the code to print onto.... Just something to think about.

No they really can't.

Here is a question they ask when you buy it from their own training manual:

Q:Does the customer have
access to a PC or Mac with
Internet access?

A personal computer is required for setup and activation, to
store iTunes content, and to receive updates from iTunes.

You will not be able to use an iPhone unless you have a computer to use iTunes with it.

And you are saying he is going to approve cherries when they have mobs of people lining up to buy stuff.

Me thinks you are the one who doesn't understand sales. You don't give stuff away unless you have to.

They don't have to give stuff away tomorrow.
