What I like about this is that the iPhone has not been announced to come in October (although we're all assuming this) but here, Sprint is saying they're going to offer unlimited data with the iPhone5 in October. hmmmmmm.......

It may be unlimited but I don't think the iPhone 5 will have a WiMax radio in the device to take advantage of Sprints 4G speeds and CDMA ftl.

Sprint's coverage isn't so hot in my home. It is ok in Long Island overall. Still, I see no reason to switch. I am grandfathered in AT&'s unlimited data and I like to have simultaneous talk/data.

Maybe for some areas. AT&T still has EDGE in my town (they roam with Cellular One in this area) even with their website claiming 3G and T-Mobile's 3G we all know can't be accessed with the iPhone .

Don't go for the hype. With Sprint you know you have at a minimum 3G everywhere so as long as you have a signal it'll be faster than AT&T or T-Mobile in it's entire network versus AT&T and T-Mobil might be faster in SOME areas.

Just do your homework and due diligence before committing to any carrier for 2 years. In my case Sprint will be extremely attractive if the iPhone 5 comes out and I can JB it to get free tethering to save on that ridiculous extra $30 charge for tethering...

Yes grandfather stays hence the grandfather. I have had ny grandfather plan since iPhone original
Remember that grandfathering is just a courtesy by the carriers. They can change the rules anytime if you're past the 2 years on the contract and are doing month to month. They can also change it if you buy a new phone, add a new line to your existing contract, in fact they can even change it at any time by just giving you advanced warning and time to either opt out and find yourself a new carrier or go along with their new rules.

Thanks for this post. I don't know why people tend to think that once they're grandfathered, they're grandfathered for life.

Sprint has a good coverage and data speed in my area, it's a good option for me to have, I can have it all and save $20 a month, that's more than half of the price of the iPhone every year. If it happens, I'm gonna sit out the first year and see what they have to offer, after that I'll decide.

Do you use your phone as a hot spot? If so how long does you battery last and does it work well regarding speed?

No I don't, I did when I was jailbroken with MyWi, never noticed any major decrease in battery life.

but speaking of sprint data speed, my girlfriend's father has the hotspot on his phone, he cancelled the Internet at his house and I thought it was a stupid idea till I tried connecting with my computer both at his house here in souther Chester county and at the beach, in ocean city NJ. The speed was just as good as mine, and with another computer connected to it (my girlfriend's laptop) So to me it's just a matter of how and if they gonna do early upgrades like AT&T does, that is all.
voice quality AT&T as never been good, the only reason I've stayed with them, beside the fact that they were the only one to have the iPhone, is their 3G speed, which lately has been slow for me.

I'm not in love with AT&T like some people here are, so once again, the sprint idea sounds appealing to me right now.

I wasn't asking about the iPhone I was actually asking about the Sprint network on hotspot so you answered my question anyway, lol! I use the iPhone with MyWi also. Thanks !
