i sure hope this works. ive asked this question 3 times on here since yesterday and no one answered me. thanks a bunch.

EDIT: just tried & TOO BAD it doesn't fix the situation on my end. i deleted my email accounts, fixed the settings you described, and then re entered my email accounts....now my iPhone email boxes are full of old emails ive already read and archived. i don't know what the F is going on. it makes no sense. iPhone should ONLY download unread messages. anyone have any other ideas? please!
No it shouldn't. Just like mac mail it downloads your mail, read or unread. Set it to show 25 emails and read them, then you are good to go.

ive done this...then it downloads 25 more. there isn't a solution in my opinion. i think it needs a fix from google. i don't think it's the iPhone's fault.

  • Log in to your gmail account.
  • Click settings in the upper right corner
  • Click Filters
  • Click New Filter
  • Type me in the From Field
  • Click next step
  • Check the first box 'Skip the Inbox (Archive it)'
  • Check 'Also apply filter to XXXX
  • Click Create Filter
Now when the CC to the inbox is sent it will get filtered out. If it does not make the inbox, it wont make it to your iPhone.

Hard to tell when you click the Gmail button on the iPhone to setup the account but it is actually setting it up as a POP3 account not HTTP like in your browser.

With POP enabled on your Gmail account you will always get the CC to inbox. This is a feature according to Gmail.

From the Gmail help:

When you (me:the iPhone) enable POP, all messages are downloaded to your client, except for Spam, Trash, and Chats. If you don't want messages that you send from the web interface downloaded to your mail client's inbox, we suggest creating a filter within your client (me: build this filter as per above steps).

This is working for me and few others.
I did this step and also clicked "Delete It" and it works for me by not having sent mail show up in my iPhone inbox. However, the problem I am having is if I want to send an email from my Gmail desktop, it won't let me send the message until I remove from trash since any message from me is automatically deleted. Kind of annoying and not sure if anyone else in here is having this problem and could be of some help! Thanks

i delete messages on my phone (and in my inbox) and they still pop up. Sometimes it even says they are unread when they aren't.

i think more annoying is reading and archiving an email on my computer and then having it show up on the iPhone again 10 min later

this worked :)

but sadly now i cant email myself which i did often to save doc's or move them from one comp to another. and i cant even send it to another email and have it forwarded to main account (just tried and it doesn't work).
Joey, you can add -discorulez@gmail.com (or whatever your email address is) in the to field of your filter, so anything sent by you AND to you will not get filtered out. So you can still email yourself stuff.

iPhone: About Gmail and Recent Mode Gmail is one of the email services that work with iPhone.
When sending Gmail from iPhone, the sent message will show up as a new message in your iPhone Inbox as if you have cc'ed yourself. If you don't want this behavior, try turning "Use Recent Mode" off.
Also note that only the last 30 days worth of Gmail will be viewable on iPhone. If you have an unread message older than 30 days that you want to read, try turning "Use Recent Mode" off.
To turn Recent Mode off, tap Settings > Mail > Your Gmail account name > Advanced, and turn off "Use Recent Mode."

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but this issue really has been annoying me as I have owned my iPhone since day one and I still have not resolved it. The OP claims that by creating a filter, gmail will filter the sent mail copy and archive it.....this does not work at all for me and apparently other users. The only way this filter solution works is when I select "send to trash" . This is not a viable solution for me at all because like another member, I often use gmail to transfer files by sending them to myself. This would not work with the filter set to send these emails to the trash.

Has anyone actually figured out a solution to this?

So I've been trying to put a stop to this madness that is duplicate emails sent via iPhone through Gmail...and after trying different filters and the obvious turning off of Bcc myself option I came across a small bit of text on Gmail's website...in the help center for configuring your Gmail account with an iPhone..it reads:

"If you notice that messages you send from your iPhone are appearing in your iPhone's inbox, please note that this POP behavior is a result of enabling Recent mode to ensure that all other POP clients will be able to access your messages. We're aware of this issue and thank you for your patience while we address this issue."

So alas I think this may be our only answer for the moment...at least until Gmail gets it in gear and fixes this problem. :(

Well, what I have found that works for me is under advance settings to turn "recent" off. I don't delete any e mails from my inbox so it doesn't fill up with a bunch of e mails I've already read, would I like it to work better, yes! But I can deal with this!
