I don't know anything about this. It seems to be a huge deal maker for many, now that it's been confirmed to be on the iPhone, but this is one of the few things that i know absolutely nothing about when it comes to phones.

What is this? How is it connected to outlook email? Will i benefit at all from it? (i've never used outlook email or anything, only Gmail, through google).

A exchange server is essentially a corporate mail server. With mac mail you can add your exchange account to it and have your work mail there. You won't be able to access it with the iPhone that way as of now. So most anyone who uses a blackberry for work email would lose that email.

You can always just log into the exchange server through safari though, so you aren't totally cut off.

exchange server

e-mail is a 2 sided coin... the server software which holds user accounts/mailboxes and the client software used to access that mailbox and create new messages.

Outlook/Outlook Express are clients
Exchange is the server

gMail is a web based client for googles mail service.
