Alright let's just get the obvious out of the way first... I'm talking about sneaking pictures in areas you otherwise shouldn't be, like a museum or a small venue.

The viewfinder is just too darn big... The bouncer at the ViperRoom totally saw me snapping shots and said "This is the last picture, NO MORE." I can't hide the screen when I'm holding it up over my head to take a shot...

Any ideas or stories of what you've done to sneak some shots?

If I could make an app request, it would be for a camera program that has a smaller viewfinder, or just turns the screen off and takes a series of shots for as long as you hold a button down to increase your chances you'll get one that's good without having to actually look at the screen.

Used it like that today at lunch. Not up a skirt, but at the next table. Just back and forth from surfing the web, to taking a pic, to surfing the web...

Then emailed the pics to a friend who would appreciate them...

Hahaha, awesome read, thanks!

Now, in my original post I was sincerely talking about taking the camera to venues, I live in LA and get access to celebrity events.

Since it's spiraled into voyeur shots I might as well add fuel to this fire.

iVoyeur: A tip sheet for admiring the beauty that surrounds you

1- Put your iPhone into Vibrate mode. What this does is turn off system sounds, such as your typing sounds and the camera shutter sound.

2- Switch to Camera mode and power down your phone. Now, the next time you power up your phone, you'll already be in camera mode, ready to take a shot.

3- If you are weary of others seeing your screen while you are setting up your shot, move one of your fingers over the camera lens. This will block out the light and make your screen go black, convincing others around you your phone is doing something other than snapping picutres.

4- One trick I've learned from my flip phone days was to hold the phone to your ear and act as if you're taking a call. What you are actually doing is blindly snapping shots from the side. This works surprisingly well, but it does take practice to learn how to aim.

5- Walk passed your subject, turn and shoot. I saw a guy that looked like my dad and I wanted to freak my sister out by emailing her a picture. Well, he didn't look to friendly, or willing to take a picture "to send my sister." So what I did was set my phone up for a picture, walked passed him, turned around and acted out typing in a phone number followed by putting it to my ear. What I was actually doing in that time was snapping a picture, and because my viewfinder is facing away from the subject, they were none the wiser. Ahem, this also work in reverse, passing someone and turning around to take your shot as they walk away. Um, I think you know what that type of shot would be for, no explaining necessary.

Long before camera phones, we had the Casio WristCam. Sure it sucked at taking pictures of stuff far away, but boy did it work wonders at snapping shots of people, particularly exhibitionists.

If you're wondering what I'm talking about, have some time to kill, or just want to be amazed by "yet another internet oddity" then head over to:

This is a gallery of shots taken by Mcmach1, a self proclaimed voyeur and one brave individual. He took these shots on his watch in 2002, and they're less about quality than they are about subject matter. I tried it on my own watch, and I could never get as close or as crisp a shot as this guy, LoL. Oh well...
