i was wondering....
i know the att/Apple stores will be closing at 2... or 4... or w/e!
my question is... when they close, will the employees still be there to answer phones?

because i wanna call at like 4:30 to see if anyone is on line yet

Well, for sure there will be people in line, probably starting in the morning.

It depends on how long you want to wait for the other people that would be in front of you in line, and at the worse case, risk the store running out of phones to sell.

The rumor is that most AT&T stores will be getting a minimum of 40 phones. So If I wanted a specific model of iPhone (4GB/8GB) I would feel uncomfortable if there was 20 people ahead of me.

Ultimately you will just need to decide what is most important to you. For me, its getting an iPhone, ON FRIDAY!.

Good Luck!

I'm kind of where you are, there are some AT&T stores that are in places that it won't be easy for people to stand in line, especially overnight. But the Apple stores should have more stock and they have a ton more room. I'm expecting a line, but hopefully not too long. I plan on checking about 3 PM, I think about 3 hours is my limit for standing in one place. Plus, I'm gonna tote my 30g and fill it with movies and just watch a couple while I'm waiting.

You can't get AT&T ppl on the phone in my area, in the first place....and that's on "light" days....They are ALWAYS occupied, or busy.
They are BY FAR the most popular provider, in my state.

I'll probably start waiting at 12pm. Unfortunately I don't have an ipod video so I'll be borrowing my GF's zune to watch movies on.... I hope I don't get my ass kicked lol!

If a line forms early at the store you're going to, you have to look at this way...
You can get in line early, and you'll wait a long time an be GUARANTEED a phone, or you can get in line late, still be in line for a while, probably, and then they may run out (not likely)...

Depends on whether you wanna take that chance.

I'm going by the store at Noon, and I will react at that point to any line that is formed, if any.

6 hours is an ugly long time and I just don't have the patience for that. I wish you luck on that though. I think that with the Mall of America where I live that there will be enough traffic in the other locations.

I think Apple kind of planned it this way so that people wouldn't be in a threatening situation once they get their iPhone.

lol... I don't mind the zune but the ipod ui is much better... other than that I have no problems with it. I do tell all of my friends to stay away from the zune tho just because of the UI.

here's my plan...

go to the mall where the Apple store is early (9-10). if no line, which i fully expect, then i will go grab breakfast and come back later. if no line, i'll walk around the mall (and stay close to the Apple store). if there is a line at any point though, i'm going to stake my spot out. buy a couple magazines...little sports illustrated, maybe Time...and i should be golden!

they have to be getting more then just 40 phones wouldn't they?

There is only 1800 stores in the nation and they said they have 3 million for release.

Now even if they kept 2 million for internet sales this wold still be over well over 40 per store.

I am hearing a minimum of 50 phones per ATT store. Of course that is probably just speculation at this point still.

Standing in line probably will be necessary but I believe that everyone is underestimating the supply. As others have said just to be safe I would want to make sure I am one of the first 15 in line just to be safe.

i agree i wouldn't be surprised if most stores had well over 100.

Hell even most stores had 20+ PS3s and they had less then 1 million on release and they were at a whole lot more stores then the iPhone will be at.

Yeah, 40-50 is the rumored minimum, some of the largest stores are getting 300. Think NYC. I can only guess at how many, my store, your store, or any one elses store will be getting.
