To those you liked TaskbarNotifier, StatusNotifier is now on Cydia. Make sure you have "hacker" set under options and it should show up.

To those who don't know what it is it adds icons to the task bar for email, SMS, and missed calls so all you have to do it hit the home button to see if you've missed anything.

Well I got it, but so far it doesn't seem to be working right. I've had the new mail indicator almost the whole time when I have no unread messages. It went away briefly one time I checked my mail, but it came back and stayed.

I haven't gotten a call or text yet. I'll see if it works for those before uninstalling.

It took a a reboot to get it working correctly for me. And I read on another site that it refreshes every 60 seconds where I think the old TaskbarNotifier was instant. So if you get a new email right at the start of the 60 second refresh the icon could stay there for almost a minute before it clears.

Read this on another site:

status notifier updates the icons every 60 seconds which is really slow. If you want to make it update faster you need to edit daemon.sh in
/usr/local/StatusNotifier/

at the very bottom of the script you`ll see

Code:

# Delay (1 min)
sleep 60

done

just change the 60 to whatever seconds you want, I set it to 10 seconds

To all those having problems with the mail icon not disappearing:

Delete the following file on your iPhone:

/private/var/mobile/Library/Mail/Envelope Index

That's it. No negative consequences.
The file will recreate itself next time it checks for mail.
Except this time the "new mail" icon should display only when you actually have new mail.

Great tips... thanks guys. Now it's working like I want!

One word of advice on that last tip: force-close the email app before you delete that file or else your mail won't show up properly in your inbox. I force-closed mail, deleted the file again, and now I'm back to normal.

I'm don't show any updates since yesterday on Cydia. Is it the one called SMSNotify that gives you reminder buzzes for new email/sms?
