If the new ipod has touch screen capabilities and wifi. It will also have at least 16 gig memory. Will the value of the iPhone go down? Think about how many people would pass on iPhone if new ipod has wifi, more memory, and a lower price tag.

Woah wait a minute...the new iPod is gonna have wi-fi!? I wouldn't have wasted my money on the iPhone if that is true. I only bought it 'cause of the iPod and internet browsing....

this is true, the new ipod is rumored to have wifi
but not many areas have wifi that is free or easily accessable (you usually need a password)
so you cant really use internet on the go

wifi for the ipod makes sense especially if the iTunes mobile thing is going to happen. On a 10 hour drive to Florida, I only found a free wifi spot once! EDGE though gives me access everywhere I go. Theres a lot more going for the iPhone than a wifi enabled ipod, and it won't devalue the iPhone.

The whole exiting idea behind the iPhone is the fact that it is a converged device. If you buy a new iPod and it actually does have WiFi, you still have to have a phone. You will still have to carry two devices.

Now, while it would be GREAT to have more memory available on the iPhone, for me (at least), I don't have any need for it unless/until someone comes up with a file management system so I can store data on the device other than music (RAW image files specifically and a way to load them off my camera like I can onto my iPod). I change playlists every few weeks, have a bunch of music on my phone, and haven't even used 1/4 of the available space (this would drop DRAMATICALLY if I had to load a bunch of 16MP images onto it, though). I can't even imagine how cool it would be to load the RAW files onto my phone, hook up to my hotel's WiFi later in the evening, then off load them via the internet to my external drive. Now THAT'S technology I could use! It would be easy to do, too, IF Apple would allow real file management on the iPhone...

Uh... no. Apple has said nothing on Wi-Fi availability. They haven't even confirmed an iPod. Is this iPod going to have a Email App, Calendar, a Camera, YouTube, Stocks, Maps, Weather, Clocks, Calculator and Notes as well? Well if it does then yeah, I will regret my purchase of the iPhone, because I do not Text at all and hardly ever use the phone. But I highly doubt the new iPod will have all this, if there is an iPod at all.

well in someways yes but if i had wifi thats only at home y i wouldn't be using my phone if i was at home unless texting or calling.. so the edge was a big part of this which the ipod doesn't but i still be piss because i paid 600 dollars for this 8 gig i expected to be like 30gig........ and either way i doubt i be using that many ill probably fill it up less tehn 4gig but i rather go for double with only a 100dollar more..

I'd still want an iPhone, simply for a few of the reasons stated above^

"Wifi" isn't everywhere! And isn't free everywhere! I'm getting wifi in my house next week, but that still doesn't make me wanna get one.

I'd rather have edge/wifi in "most" places than have to hunt down a wifi spot just to look something up on the internet breifly.

And if they do introduce a new ipod with double the memory of the iPhone, do you think a higher memory iPhone will soon follow?
