Strange icon next to iPod controls

hi all,

Since i last listened to my iPhone via headphones I now have an icon next to my ipod controls which is a rectangle with an upwards arrow at the bottom of it. When i press it it asks whether to use the main iPhone speakers or the ear piece used when taking a call.

What is this and how do i get rid? It is stopping some apps from outputting sound. :-(

Have u been using Bluetooth?
That icon shows up when I'm connected to my motorcycle helmet.
Might try toggling Bluetooth off.....

The rectangle with the upwards arrow on the bottom pointing up is the airplay mode. Is your idevice jailbroken?

Where do you see that icon when using AirPlay mode?

I've never seen it in association with AirPlay.....

I have only ever seen that icon when connected via Bluetooth:

It gives you the option of how you want the audio handled, to your Bluetooth speaker or iPhone speaker:

EDIT:
After a bit of research, I do see screenshots with that icon associated with AirPlay, but perhaps that is only when using AppleTV.
I've never seen it using AirPlay between my iPhone/iPad and home computer.

That is definitely an Airplay sign. I get it all the time because I have Apple TV at home. If I'm listening to music on my iPhone or looking at pictures I took or Videos that symbol is always present. This also pops up on my iPad 3 when and if I'm listening to music.

If you select it, you'll be asked if you want to use airplay for that song or the pictures, or whatever you have up. Try it out if you dare. It's really fun. I did it a few weeks ago just to see what it would be like and it was pretty nice.

I love my Apple TV.
