Sync Calendar & Contacts with something other than Outlook

I sync my Calendar, Contacts & Notes from Outlook 2003 through iTunes to my iPad and iPod. I want to quit using Outlook.

I am starting to use Evernote for my notes which I can sync to PC and devices so it's just for calendar and contacts.

I'd also like to use my calendar and contacts off-line with my PC which I can do with Outlook.

And is iTunes my only way to sync my iPad & iPod to my devices?

You can use cloud services like Google, Yahoo, etc, but they require you to be on line to use on your PC. iCloud to Outlook is the only way I am aware of to get your contacts and calendars to your PC and be able to use them off line.
Not sure what you mean by using iTunes to sync your iPad and iPod to your devices. What devices?

Sorry, Da! That was not clear. What I meant was is there another program that I can sync my iPod and iPad to besides iTunes? Although, I have tunes that I ripped from my own CD's that are on iTunes.

Get confused on how everything is integrated. Outlook Calendar, Contacts, Notes, Music....Seems like I'm tethered to iTunes.

I did see that Google was going to have their calendar off-line. Haven't checked it out yet.
