Is anyone else upset that you can't text message multiple people at once? For example...I have over 500 numbers that I need to continuously keep in contact with. Most of whom need the same info. I would like to know if anyone knows how to mass text people at the same time.

i see you on that dawg...i perfectly understand...i definitely get into the multiple textn every now and then...some of these folk don't do as much netwkn like us...they have to have a plan to make this available...however there is a way to send a multiple text to peoples cell...

I have never needed to text more than one person at a time. I think you can do that on a Blackberry. :laugh2:
you can actually do that on pretty much every other phone. I started a thread about this on day2 but I'll add my name to this one as well, as a nightclub promoter i need this feature- to those saying "just call them", this is a businesss need for immediate one way communication, not just for friends. Here's hoping for a speedy update...

You just need to click the X above the word. It will automatically not use that in your message.

Real mad

We have the nicest phones in town with the most ridiculous texting in the world! Please tell me that there is going to be a software upgrade on this.

your real name

Quick explanation on why I text so much so people don't think I'm insane. I own my own nightclub marketing company called Liquid Karma Entertainment out in Scottsdale, Arizona. I have to text various people regarding events, directions, dates, times, etc. I also have a list of patrons that like to get an update on where the party is at for the night. Can't send them one by one or I'll shoot myself. FRUSTRATED! Not at any of you fine people though. A great phone with great features. Just left out the simplest programs. Things like deleting more than one text or email at a time. Email is the worst. I delete it once. Then I have to go to the trash and delete it again. No way of emptying the entire trash can. DAMN YOU APPLE! SIMPLE PROGRAMS. DID YOU NOT PICK UP ANY PDA WHEN MAKING THIS PHONE?
Your real name doesn't happen to have Tilman in it?

I find getting mass texts to be annoying
Sure, when people use them like MySpace bulletins it's a drag. OTOH, messages like "hey guys, change of plans. we'll be meeting at kate's house at 7. The address is ..." are of high utility, and a real drag when you need to get it out to a dozen people. I've had no less than a half dozen instances where i had to call a friend to 'get the word out' with their lesser phone.

Just seems kind of incomplete Apple would build the functionality into the Mail applicatio but disregard the texting app.

I would imagine the only possible problem would be how would that work after the message was sent? Since the conversations are threaded, would it show the first recipient on the list or the last? Or none at all?

I'd imagine if you add more than one recipient, that balloon ichat view would disappear in multiple send mode but would update each recipients threaded view when you go back in to view it later.

Spin This -

You actually highlighted another problem. The messages aren't threaded (recipient != a subject).

To fix all Apple needs to do is allow adding a subject. As a software engineer myself this one really escapes me, it seems like such minimal effort.

Mass mail/texts.

I kinda have a workaround for those of you that want to mass text people. The way to do this, is find out what the email equivalent of your text message address is for your contacts.

Example. AT&T has a system where you email number@txt.att.net or 555-555-5555@txt.att.net. This will let you type an email, send it to the person's text/email address, and they will receive it as a text message. The only drawback, is that you have to find out what each carriers' email/text address is. Then you have to add an address in your contacts list.

Once you do this, type a message in NOTES, hit the email button, and just add everyone's email/text address. Multiple recipients is possible. I tested it with a couple of my email addresses, and also my iPhone texts, and it works for the ATT network.

Hopefully I explained it well enough to help some of you out there that really need multiple text capability and have no other option(s).

My Palm Treo had text threading and I could mass text. Unfortunetely, I just think that the text messaging on this phone is horrible. It can map a McDonalds in Japan but I can't tell 3 people that dinner plans have changed or give directions to more than one person at a time. Imagine moving and telling people how to get to the BBQ. DAMN!
