Thank you. I'd still rather see this one get a title that's more specific to the game or about the terrible call, but that's a separate discussion.
That is seriously one of the worst calls I've ever seen. And it is one of the very few where you can say it 100% directly changed the result of the game. I really hope it doesn't end up impacting the final standings for either team.
Be that as it is, mistakes are made unintentionally. And if it changes the result of the game, the only thing you can do is consider human error part of the game. If this wasn't true, baseball or any sport for that matter would be officiated by robots.

If ever there was an argument for expanding the use of replays in baseball, this is the call that makes the case.
No replay in baseball, please. I enjoy the pace of the game as it is. I agree that human error is just a part of the game.
Referee mistakes led our arch enemy team in soccer to win the league and left us in second place. However, "mistakes" against us were way too many throughout the season while they were "mistakes" FOR our opponents throughout the season. Kind of seems planned and intentional, like almost every year.
Intentionally calling a game the wrong way is a whole different topic entirely. Honost bad calls are nothing more than human error and if soccer for example is 99% skill and 1% luck (Luck being that your ref doesn't make a game chaning bad call or calls), then thats 1% of the game that can cost you a lot - hard work or now. It doesn't mean anyone likes to see a team lose or win due to these mistakes - but when they happen - you have to take them in stride.

I think slow games like baseball and football lend themselves to the use of replay. It's a lot tougher to make a case for it in faster, more flowing sports like soccer and rugby.
It is maybe over-used by now in the NFL but I'd like to see it used for plays at the plate like this.
I wish FIFA would bring back the use of replays by referees. I believe it would bring a little bit of equality into the sport. My team has been a target of false-calls for years now and it's really depressing for us as fans.
