Is there a new iTunes release coming that allows custom ringtones?

What about New iTunes version to make own ringtones?

Not to burst your bubble, but this has been discussed VERY VERY much lately. Please use the search function next time.

Ringtones on the iPhone through iTunes is still a rumor but many sources confirm that this will be introduced at a later time.

No one knows when exactly this update will come nor if it will be the first in a series up software updates that are expected to be released between now and the fall release of Mac OSX Leopard.

iJohn just pointed out a tip on how to get the most from EIP and more importantly he provided the answer to the OP question.

And to answer your question, with the help of everyone, this place will be a more friendly, knowledgeable place for iPhone discussion. You don't need a "moderator" tag to do the right thing. In my opinion, that was the intention of iJohn.

In fact, adding Thanks to iJohn.

Seriously dude, I think we know sooner than they do with leeks/Rumors. End-level retail employees don't know crap from what I can surmise. When it happens, it happens.

Give them a chance...

Give them a chance to write clean code... and to hear from users what issues are being experienced in the wild...

And like the other poster suggested... patience Grasshopper.

PS. We also wish there was an update already.

the longer it takes, the more that I hope that it will contain more than just bugfixes. hopefully, with this much time they will include cut/paste, an actual Tasks program, ringtones, SpotLight search, MMS, iChat, etc, etc, etc

you know, I almost don't want the update for a while now. After spending all day Saturday modding my iPhone, I'm kinda happy with it now. From what I hear, any update would wipe clean any modifications. With my luck, the update will be Sunday.

The phone has been out for less than a month hasn't it? I don't expect an update until at least three months after the initial release. The program management people at Apple probably have all the dates laid out based on established release cycle criteria.

I do expect the first update to be a significant one since Apple has had quite a while to work on it. I know that by the time my company ships a new software release that what we have internally has already far surpassed what was shipped. The manufacturing lead time on hardware is even longer so I imagine that Apple froze the code for the production release 6-9 months ago. There are probably some people walking around Apple with some pretty nice iPhones.

I would not be surprised if there were no updates until leopard is released in the fall...my reasoning for this is due to rumors of iPhone getting many of the same features as leopard...oh by the way, leopard is INSANE! I have the beta running and there are so many features that could easily be written for iPhone...additionally, you can clearly see how usefull a multitouch lcd would be.

My iPhone works just fine and very usuable even without an update. Sure, the ringer can be louder but I'm not expecting an update anytime soon. My guess is probably in three months. Lighten up!

How are you running the beta? Where did you get it? I want it.

Yeah we're definitely not going to know when an update comes out (only by rumors), I've noticed Apple is very good at keeping secrets.

Either way I hope they're working on a big update that will not just fix things but add things to the iPhone that are pretty much missing. The list is there on the top of my head. :laugh2:
