Transferring old number

Hey guys I am new sorta. I have been reading these forums for a while and decided to register today. My verizon contract is up on July 2nd. I cannot register with ATT until July 3rd according to verizon. Now what I need to know is, on July 3rd do I just put my old verizon number in? Or do I have to call both company's and make them aware. Also I have read all of these slow activations. I am wondering if it would be better to go try and get it activated in an ATT store. Thanks for the help guys.

You don't have to tell anyone -- you can just do it through iTunes. I ported from Verizon on launch day, but had some trouble with my account number (from verizon) containing a dash. I would suggest taking your old phone and iPhone to an AT&T store along with your Verizon bill and have them do it with you. It might save you a headache later if you can just walk in, have them help you activate it, and walk out all in a half hour, hour or so.
