Unlimited TXT messaging

Found out today that if you call ATT you can add unlimited text messaging ATT to ATT only for an additional 4.95 a monthy.

They have had this plan for a few months now on other phones, so if you are a texter you can get 200 to anyone(standard) and unlimited to other ATT phones.

That seems dangerous to me. I would be afraid that I would fall into a false sense of security and before I know it, I would be having long conversations with T-Mobile and Verizon users. Next thing you know, you've got an additional $200 dollars worth of text messaging on your bill. You may as well spend $15 more dollars to get unlimited data and texting and be confident that you won't have any surprises on your bill.

Good Point just depends on who you text, also I thought it was 19.99 a month extra.

$20 for the data plan + 200 and $5 for unlimited AT&T to AT&T texting = 25
40 is unlimted, thats only $15 difference.

It would be almost $5 for the M2M Cingular texting plan you posted. An additional $15 dollars and you could get the Unimited data and texting plan.

$20 - $5 = $15

In addition to the $5 you would spend on the M2M Cingular plan.

I just called AT&T and had this added to my plan. It's worth it for me since the main people I text are also on AT&T. Now the 200 I get each month can be reserved for my non AT&T friends. If I need unlimited for them, I can always add that on to my account.

I know that the minutes rollover but what about unused text messages do those rollover too?

Rollover only applies to your anytime minutes (i.e., 450, 900, etc). M2M voice and text is unlimited so rollover doesn't apply.

Not that I know of. But if you find out differently let me know. That would be awesome if it did...but I highly doubt it.

I'm not sure about rollover for text messages that are not part of an unlimited plan. You should check with AT&T.

i have been with them for a while and i have never had any roll over text, just voice minutes. Be careful thinking you can just call and add if you need them, I know each time I altered my plan i got hit with a new plan charge also

Holy crap, you see THIS is why people hate Cingular/AT&T because of crap like that. Can't they see that Verizon is way on top and it's because they don't have all these stupid extra charges?

Seriously? I've changed my familytalk plan quite a few times since we became customers and never had any fees for it.

Call me a moron but.......

A SMS text message is only an email - for example I can text message XXX-XXX-XXXX or I can email XXX-XXX-XXXX@provider.com (.net). Same is true of using text pagers via someone like SkyTel or ArchWireless - now with a T-Mobile data plan it costs nothing to use the email route but cost to use the SMS message route (but only after you reached the incoming limit, basically outgoing gets charged if SMS and no SMS plan). Is this the same true with AT&T? I never used SMS messages (with T-Mobile account pre-iphone) I only emailed to the number at the provider address - I never got charged for a single outgoing SMS
